I take a lot of shots of Great Blue Herons, so I know a good one when I see it. This is a good one, but not a great one. I think that's what hurt the score -- too many other GBH shots out there to compare it with.

What I do really admire about this is the background. That is hard to get -- the colors, clarity, and depth. So often the background is blurred out to prevent it from competing with the subject. Here the subject almost competes with the background. I really like that swamp.

I think this in an improvement over the one you entered in LOW, even though those whiskers are in front of the eye and the cat is looking off to the left. The fur looks less matted, the highlights are perfect, and the whole ear is included. Really beautiful shot.

I agree with you, I like the Fall leaves with the ice. Too bad the camera didn't pick up any sparkling bokeh in that white background. It would have been a knockout. Maybe sun is what was called for here, for the benefit of both the leaves and the background. But you can't control that. Nice job working with what you had.

I like this a lot and gave it a 9. I think the reason I didn't go all the way is the narrow crop. The framing, colors, contrast, light, and path leading into the woods, all make for a really fine photograph.
