I like the colors. The DOF seems a bit too shallow. I like shallow DOF for flower macros, but I think a larger percent of the image should be within the focal distance.

I think it's a startling capture -- excellent. For this challenge, I don't think it conveyed color, because I couldn't recognize it as a blue jay. Depending on the mood you are trying to convey, this may or may not be a good b&w conversion. If you are trying to create a scary/ominous mood, you did a very good job -- the sort of thing that might go over well in Grimm Fairy Tales. If you are trying to show a close up of a bird in flight, it is a little dark to make out the details. But if your question is about the score, I would say it is because of the color aspect of the challenge.

The glass reflection gives this a natural overlay. Great effect, and you achieved it without extreme processing.

The Drop

I really like this image. The colors remind me of spring: the colors of a patch of violets. And I love the way the drop is balancing atop the tiny point of water. Some day I may try a water drop shot myself. Thanks for sharing your setup.

I see and feel the emotion here, but the image is not abstract. I can't give it a high score for this challenge. I'll go half way since you went half way. BTW I really like the image -- the subject, the texture, the composition, the light, and the b&w conversion. I wish you had entered it in Free Study.

Nice. I recognize the koi, yet the image is very abstract in the colors and lines. I really like this, and it makes me feel happy and yet somewhat frenzied.
