Nobody's Making Honey Here...by ToltComment: You asked for help understanding why this didn't fit the challenge. I think I was a little abrupt in my first comment, but that really explains all those low votes.
It is a very nice photo of the lilac, and judging by the number of high votes you received, many people thought your way of interpreting the challenge was valid.
There is a group of members here that sometimes reward photos like this with an OOBie. It stands for Out Of the Box. It's for good photos that meet the challenge, but with a different approach or way of thinking than the majority of the entries. This should definitely be an OOBie contender, if the group is still awarding them.
If you care about getting a higher score, which many people don't, you need to be more obvious in your choice of subject. Many voters don't even read the description of the challenge, just the title, and they only view the photo for an instant (not enough time to follow out-of-the-box logic). This is always a problem for participants who are competing for the ribbons. For me, I use the challenges as challenges -- to take the best shot I can on a specific topic. I don't care about the competition, but of course I like getting high scores -- it gives me a little validation. And I have received a couple of OOBies myself. I proudly display them on my profile page. :) |

Silver and Goldby tangueraComment: You're developing a body of work with these dramatic portraits of women with dogs. Very nice! I like the way you have the women gazing elsewhere while the dogs stare straight at the camera. Love the set, the light, and the tone in this one. |

Honey-suckleby KelliComment: Love this one -- beautiful color, light, focus, and DOF. And I like the simple idea of the honey dripping out of the honeysuckle. |

Bear Trap (Pat. Pending)by tvsometimeComment: Funny idea, but actually I would like this image quite a lot without the gloves. There are nice textures and colors, but the gloves break up the simplicity and the nice diagonal line of the log. |
