Serious tonemapping here, but with all the texture in the stone and bare trees I think it works well. Very 3-dimensional.

There are some interesting bands of light in the sky and on the tree, but overall there is too much sky for my taste in landscapes, and the bottom 3rd of the picture is dark and cluttered-looking. Considering this outside the challenge theme, a tighter crop to get rid of suburbia (might require a little cloning out of the roofline, too) makes for a much nicer image.

Interesting subject and composition, especially with the vertical lines in the sand and dark horizontal ones in the clouds. And some more amorphous shapes in the sky to break up the regularity of the patterns.

Good to have stuff to look at in the foreground and background and the reflection of the clouds in the water is nice. Trees look too uniformly red to be realistic.

Yes, it does, sometimes. Not all landscapes are pretty, particularly not when manmade. Perspective and B&W presentation work well. Might have cropped tighter so the trees (weeds?) progressed up and out of the frame, but the abrupt and visually disconcerting transition is probably more appropriate for the subject. Nice work.

There apparently is a nesting pair in a park in Springfield! Funny that they block off "nesting areas" in gigantic parks and then we find them contendedly hanging out in suburbia. I see one now and again at a park or just flying overhead while I'm driving. I never cease to be thrilled to see one :-) Congrats on your sighting (and especially having a camera handy).
