Lighting is way to harsh for this to be a successful image. Because of the the sky is flat the shade and light is too extreme and we've lost the eyes almost entirely which we usually use to 'reach us' in a story.

The image suffers from lack of clarity due to lack of tripod. The choice of selective desat is strange to me, because I can't read it and have no way of knowing why you thought it was important enough to pick out.

Love the clarity. I think for balance in my mind I'd have wanted the stump and the cloud opening to be diagonally opposite not as they are.

I think selective desat works best when the focus is on one item. All the reds selected flatten the image somewhat. The Greyscale is very flat too.
