[Now what I consider a constructive comment, pointing defects on the image]:

At first it seems the "chaos" subject matter is the rocks, as they appear in foreground and well focused, which could be interesting but the lighting is very poor and it becomes dull. What seems to be some people and flare are really a distraction, and the strong city lights in the bg don't help much either. Though obfuscated by the city lights the effects in the sky are nice tough to the image.

I think the reason this image went underrated is that it only works with the title, it does not convey a "dead end" per se, without that comment/description.
I like the story, though. Plus, the composition and technique are right on: sharp focus on the boy, a lovely DOF, saturation and square crop with subject slightly off-centered.
