Joey wasn't wearing any pants at the time either, so i photoshopped his jeans into the photo.

In all seriousness I think people could learn some lessons spending some time with Joe. Photographically he's got a great eye for the interesting, and has no reservations asking anyone for a photo if he sees the op. He hasn't told you that he was using a borrowed D70 for this shoot, so presumably he has very little experience with the nuances of the dSLR, yet the pics turned out like this. awesome.

Above that though, there are life lessons to learn from him as well. He treated absolutely everyone (except me of course) with respect, from the homeless to his parents. How refreshing to see someone sit among a group like this, talk to them as humans, offer some money for their time, and then try to represent them as they are - humans, albeit less fortunate than us. There was even one crusty old fella who didn't want his picture taken because he was afraid "it'd be all over the internet like last time" (I don't think his cardboard box has net access, so i'm not sure how he knew). Joe explained why he was taking the pics, but the guy wouldn't budge. he tried to give the money back, but Joe said no thanks, wished him well, and we were on our way.

'twas a great afternoon.

And I flat out refuse to say "He's great for a 16 year old!". I consider that an insult. He's great for any age.

Overall I'd say you got a great result, particularly out of that camera (no offense intended to your camera ;)) The exposure is excellent, giving it a nice range and decent contrast. The wings seemed to have picked up more of the colour from the gels than her clothing, so they appear a bit grey (or maybe they are grey). either way, a little dodging of the highlights might help bring them up and balance the image out a bit.

Personally I'd have preferred a slightly shallower depth of field, which would set her off from the background a bit. I know that's tough without a dSLR. I'd prefer the shallow DOF because the stark mixture of verticals and horizontals in the background detract a bit from soft diagonals made up by the model and her wings. It's a personal preference of mine, but one that I think would serve this image well.

Conceptually it carries a strong message, which seems to go over well at DP. It's obvious to me that you used a single light source, but sometimes for challenges you need to smack voters in the face with it, as you often only get a few seconds to make your impression. Using a dialled down umbrella rather than a soft box would make it more directional and a little more obvious (outside of this challenge, mind you, the softbox was a perfect choice, and my preference as well)

Very nice entry, Dennis. keep it up.

I understand it's the point of the image, but somehow this one would be more powerful to me without the gun and shells. Not trying to tell you how to create your image, and it doesn't change my vote - it's just the thought i had. I don't remember it from the first go around so I assume you're staying true to the original.

I really like the texture in the room, and the way the light falls off to the left fits the image well. the pose is great and the techicals are spot on. a nicely created image.
