Datura-V_IMG_5176-DPC8.jpgby GeneralEComment: Sweet shot! We have these in the botanical garden here, in various colors, they are so pretty. A challenge to get a nice BG, though. The best bet is usually the deep shade behind them, as you captured here.
If this is a hanging flower, as it looks, it's an Angels Trumpet or Brugmansia. Datura, or loco weed, flowers open rightside up. The Angels Trumpet seed pod is smooth. The seed pod of loco weed is extremely prickly, called a 'thorn apple.' These flowers are so interesting. You can find datura growing in the boiling sun & brick-hard earth at the edge of a road or ditch--the flowers open up in the late afternoon, stay open all night for moths to pollinate, & are gone by noon the next day. The two are related, both are considered poisonous. Lots of info if you google. |

Datura Curvesby GeneralEComment: These blossoms are irresistible, or such a perfect moon-white. I am greatly entertained by the liberties this comp takes with their colors, what fun! |

Seed-Pod.jpgby drydocComment: I was attracted by the color right away & then lingered to enjoy the detail. I love a good border, don't get me wrong, but this is not the right border for this comp, IMHO. [eta] Because, the border should not call attention to itself & because this one did, for me. It makes me think of a plain wood frame. Because, if I was going to frame this to hang on the wall, a simple, narrow wood frame would not be my choice. Because, framing is so personal, it's almost a guarantee that whatever you pick for your border/frame will please only you best. Because, if it was for myself, I would've made a border that falls away rather that 'frames' the subject, because that blossom is really interesting & your capture of it only adds to it's best qualities of form & line & color. Well I hope this helps explain. It's late, I can almost see the bottom of my vodka shooter, I'm free-associating here! Message edited by author 2008-08-18 01:48:48. |

Red Buoyby GermaineComment: This kind of cracks me up. The restricted point of view elevates a simple red bouy to great importance, but it's still a simple red bouy out there floating around. I like the way it pulls my gaze left & right. |
