I like both versions for different reasons.
The dark background one has a harsh 'straight on' light like it was 'photographed' on a scanner. A few photographers have had great success with their scanner shots, so its not a bad thing. It certainly personifies death effectively.

The white background has a more optimistic look at death. Not so sad and gloomy.

Looks like a hosta. Did it have spikes of lavender trumpets? It Should be just past its flowering phase now. Even though lavender is my favorite color, the flowers aren't as interesting to me as the gorgeous foliage.

Looking at it from a distance, its in the shape of a flower. If you drew a line around the outside of the branches it would have petal like shapes. The branches are like the veins of the petals with the rest removed. (my imagination taking over)

What a fun experiment. Good thing about digital, you can't really 'ruin' it if you keep the original. Just make different versions till it strikes a cord with the artist.
