From The Chips Perspective! by MaverComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Let me congratulate you first on getting in the top ten with this image well done.
Difficult to critique this from my perspective as I found this challenge topic to be very unappealing. However, just because I didn't like the topic, doesn't mean I can't find something to comment.
You obviously spent some time thinking about this and setting it up. It's a clever idea and clearly worked with the voters. I may have preferred a slightly deeper depth of field so that more of the crisps (I'm British, these are crisps, not chips!) are sharper. I can only imagine that given the set up, this would be quite difficult to achieve.
Overall, I'd say this was pretty well done and resonated with the voters.

This is one that I find hard to critique. I like it, I gave it a 6 in voting, but there is something missing for me and I can't put my finger on what it is that is missing.
I think I would have preferred to see a bit more foreground included, the framing feels a bit too tight for me. The letterbox style cropping constrains the image somehow. I'm missing the feeling of the wide open space. As far as the B&W goes, I tend to like a bit more contrast, not so much that the spray of the wave is blown out, but enough to give a bit more of a punch. This is a very minor nitpick and is just my personal preference.
Overall a well done image, but I think with a few minor compositional changes could have got you a higher score.

Genesee Night Viewby juliejoldComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
I was quite surprised when I go this image to critique that you had only scored a 5.2 in the recent B&W challenge. I cannot help feeling that was a little harsh, but the competition was quite stiff. I certainly remember it from voting, so that's good as it clearly made an impression.
I like the way you have depicted what can be a fairly common subject by making it appear to be slightly abstract. I think the very heavy blacks in your post processing have done this. I have to say, I rather like this as it is, but can imagine there are some voters who would have preferred to see a bit more detail in the shadow area and so this probably contributes to the score.
Overall I think this was rather well done and am surprised it didn't do better. |

Croker Art Museum - PAW15by IndigoButterflyComment: Wonderful building and a perfect choice for B&W. I love the lens flare, it really adds to this a lot. Joining the others about the B&W conversion, I think increasing the blacks (a small levels adjustment is probably enough). I bet it would be really amazing. |

no rainby idealoddsComment: I gave this an 8 and in case you didn't see it, gave it a shout out in the posthumous thread. Quite lovely. Beats me how it didn't score higher. |

Perseveranceby PenelopeKComment: Penny, this was really one of my faves. I love the simplicity. The coffee toning is one of my favourites in SEP too. |
