Waitingby MelethiaComment: This was actually one of my higher rated photos in the challenge. A very good capture. The tonality is terrific. The little details in the image make it special. And the lighting, nearly flawless. This encompasses everything you see in fine art, and should have been rated much higher. |

Wild Parrotby JuliBocComment: This is the kind of picture that gets better the longer you look at it. The angle of moment of the bird is terrific. |

Wink!by noranekoComment: Quite simply a wonderful shot. Good angle, nice rich warm tones. Great expression that really sets the image apart from other wildlife shots. |

Git lost kid, ya botha meby bmartuchComment: Bob I am not going to give too much in the way of comments, since it looks like you have plenty. I just be brief here, for this shot I think it is the wrong angle. Actually, I think it is stronger as two seperate compositions. Cover your hand over the left dog... a good shot. Cover your hand over the right dog... a good shot. It just does not vibe together with this perspective. I think it is the akwardness of the "dead" space in the middle that does it. Perhaps if the background wasn't white it would work. Just a thought.
However, it is a cute picture and wonderful dogs. It is one those pictures that has "everything" right but is just not combined the right way. Give it a couple years though, and this will be the prevalent style. Maybe you are just ahead of the times! I gave you a 6 in the challenge. |

Black - Whiteby TCGuruComment: Responding from thread post. Terrific idea and concept. Nice light capture in the eyes. A couple of things to point out why this might not have scored as well as you hoped. White on the left side doesn't quite match white on the right side. I think that is critical for this effect. They eyes, while nice light is kind of looking up disengaging the viewer. Also a little too sharp, there are noticeable jaggies around the person's frame and lips.
This are pretty minor things though to an excellent shot. A 5.9 is an excellent score especially considering this is a Free Study. Incidently, I this voted at a 6. |

J O Yby pawdrixComment: Cute pose, nice vibrant colors. Good use of the frame and nice placement of the subject within the frame. The only minor quibble is the skin color, particular the hands, almost seems a little bland. Might just be me though. Still a nice shot and highly rated. |

Blue Sunsetby curtnchelljComment: This is similiar in alot of ways to pictures I seem to take. Lots on nice color and textures yet have very little interest to the viewer (I'm the same). I think to pull the composition together a bit try cropping of the right the big tree and just a bit off the left. Just a thought. Still lovely lines in the sky and wonderful colors. I am big fan of silhouttes at the moment. |

Highlightsby BaldurTComment: The highpoints are definetly the side lighting coming in and the long shadows. While I like the pose of the head here and the lighting of the main, the rear end is a low point for me. The exposure is good, looks like you were trying to preserve the highlights here. That's good, just not enough highlights in the photo, most of the exposure is in the basement. A little contrast/brightness would help. However, I think the main thing here is the position of the horse, just a slight turn so it embraces the light a bit more and you would have had something magical. As is just an average rating from me. A terrific idea! Hope that helps. |

Shenandoah Valleyby SJCarterComment: I think you are going to get this quite a bit in the comments, so I just point out the bad in a quick list. Too much staturation, centered horizon, too much contrast, and the staturation doesn't not seem to be even across the frame (blue on one side green on the other).
Now I will expound on the good points:
Very nice dynamic clouds going on here, they fill the top of the frame nicely.
This looks liek a great study on color, just tone it down a bit and it would really sing.
I like the lines and patterns with the mountains, farmland, and forests. It gives a good texture. The rolling hills and distance clouds also give good depth to the photo.
I'm curious what the original looked like. Still not a bad landscape just a bit over processed. |
