This is a great shot, Deb. I would vote for "didn't want me disturbing her birds" interpretation - I'm not guilty of shooing people away, but I've often been highly frustrated when observing a particular bird or interaction of birds and someone comes along, too close or too noisy or both, and scatters them away - maybe she was afraid she would lose the moment, if you got too close. Perhaps you could offer a print of this shot, or others you have of her? She might really like that...

What he said... it's not the sentiment that's objectionable, it's how it was delivered.

As for the conceptual nature of the shot, the more I look at it the more it makes me think of a further subtext, possibly intended, possibly not - the choice of focus placement and how it aligns with a certain area of the body, combined with a title that makes us wonder what constitutes a "good" wife. Is is only domesticity that's implied here by the apron, or something else?
