Yes!by bledfordComment: Nice idea - brought a smile to my face. :) One of those quiet moments of triumph we don't share with others. Good composition, although I'd suggest taking the pictures off the wall - they interfere with your subject. Also, the shadows are a little too dark. If you use Photoshop, check out the selective color adjustment layer. Without making selections within the image, you can tweak how dark the blacks, whites, and neutrals are. You can also adjust colors, but I find it most useful for setting those. |

Willby gocComment: I like the idea and the processing. The swimmer's just a little bit too small in the frame. |

Beating the Storm Inby KelliComment: Without the title, this doesn't say "triimph" to me. For future shots, try using the levels or curves adjustments to get rid of haze. You can also try USM at low amounts and high radius, like 20, 50, 0. |

Breaking the Tapeby GeneralEComment: Interesting idea. The crop is so tight, though, that I had no idea what I was looking at until I read the title. |

YEAH!!!; ,,, my first ribbon at DPC!by OculusComment: Fun! Maybe this'll be your second. :) For jumping shots, it's usually more effective to show the ground, to emphasize how high you are. Same thing goes for cropping - show more below you than above. |

Office viewby MelethiaComment: What do you mean about B&W? This looks sand-colored to me. :) Actually, it's a pretty nice scenic shot. |

Hell Hath No Fury......by JamesKWComment: Well, I gave this a 7. Unlike many of the entries, you actually portrayed an extreme emotion. I don't expect everyone to have Hollywood-like props and locations.
Edited to add: now that you know how people treat photos that don't meet professional film quality standards, you can decide whether to bother with this kind of shot again or not. The fact that it doesn't bother me is one point, but scores are based on average feelings, so if that's what matters, you know what to do. Message edited by author 2007-08-01 00:51:12. |

Tomby holdingtimeComment: Ok, after reading your complaints in the scores thread, I guess you'd argue that the motion is coming from the guy in the back. But that's not what comes through to me. And for that matter, even the guy in the back doesn't show extreme emotion.
One of the toughest things is to forget what we know to see things from the voter's perspective. Here, you KNEW the guy in back was your subject and he was showing strong emotion. But I didn't, and apparently neither did most voters. On the other hand, Klstover loved it, and she often does very interesting things, so you're doing fine to connect with her.
All of that said, I still think it's a nice B&W with good composition and solid technique. |
