I really like this shot beyond it being a "people shot." I guess it's just a beautiful thing to see all those great photographers lined up in such an amazing location. I think with a little color and lighting manipulation this could be a definate wow at least to fellow photographers.

Sorry to see you scored so low. You were in my top 15. I thought your photo was different than the typical bug shot. This has a lot of character. The exposure was a little off and your DOF might have been a little too tight for my tastes, but I liked it a lot.

I'm fighting with myself here. One one hand I hate those bugs. On the other my logical mind is saying "look at the photo.. not the bugs." My irrational mind wants to just give it a 5 and move on. My logical mind says that the photo has a special something and to give it a 6.

I like the lighting and the feel of a desert at sunset. The focus and DOF are nice. ...but man I hate those things! 6.. moving on!

The lighting on this shot is really drab. It makes your butterfly look old and dirty. Theres only one subject in the whole shot that is entirely in the shot. Everything else is cut in some way or another. I think because of the lighting, nothing is really standing out as a focal point. If you had set up a light to the left side maybe you'd get some depth and that center flower would pop out some. As it is right now there's not enough shadow for any of the flowers to stand out on their own. They kinda just look like a blob of red. That extra lighting would help bring out the sparkles in the wings of the butterfly too.

Beautiful butterfly and DOF. I think you're a little underexposed though.

Colors are pretty drab due to lighting. Also I think you should have narrowed your road a bit. If you think about the scale, that's a really wide road, heh. Narrowing it would also give you less empty white space. You could get closer and not even have the empty white spaces to the sides. I think that would help pull the viewer down the street with the "fleas."

This isn't a great shot, but I did give you a boost for creativity.

It took me a few extra seconds to actually see the little guy... even though it's in perfect focus and there almost seems to be a beam of light shining right on him.

To me this looks like what I would call a proof shot. By that I mean it's a quick shot of something cool that you took as proof that you saw it, and then you snuck up closer only to have it fly away before you could get your real shot.

It's a decent shot. You just needed to be closer for the great shot.

Focus is nice and the subject is interesting. There's actually so much dead space to the right of the subject that I think it's actually competing for attention. Overall the photo is a bit dark too. This could use a little bit greater DOF and a few steps slower on shutter speed.

I think your aperture is a little too shallow, but I can't honestly say I'd want to see more of that green plastic thing he's standing on.

When I first got my macro I went outside and found a dead one of these bugs. I took a bunch of shots of him on a leaf. My DOF was too shallow too. I needed to lower the shutter speed, and I had no excuse not to. Not like he was going anywhere... he was dead! They're in my profile if you'd like to see.

=)
