Untitled #629 by Samantha_TComment: wish that there was just the slightest trail of smoke either from the mouth or from the ciggy, and lipstick on the filter...I have a hard time buying this without details like that. |

Stairs Colored Through Windowsby clickodakComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Dang, Marcel, I can see exactly what you had in mind, and I think this image is way underrated...I gave you an 8 on it. If this were a challenge for Windows, as opposed to Window Light, or even Architecture, this could have done really well. Very simple, dynamic comp with leading lines taking you up out of frame, to who knows where?
A suggestion: crop out the frames on the left, from the one with the flag on, and if you have time, add a person or two on the staircase and see how much stronger this image would be. Mark this location as one to use for future shoots!

Power Shakeby clickodakComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Hehe, thanks for the shout-out Marcel:-) And of course I end up with your image to critique! Yes the comp is simple, and technically it's pretty good, though you want to try and light from both sides when doing a shot like this, to create that nice flawless white bg. The eggs and glass are a little close to the bg, you want more distance away from the backdrop so you don't get a shadow.
Keep up the good work, you're doing well!

Clear Ideasby GeorgesBogaertComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I can see exactly what your commenter means...there is just too much white there in the big cottony puff in the bowl,it's blown out on the left, and blown-out whites are the kiss of death of many a good shot. Pity cause the bowl and reflection are quite nicely done, though I'd have liked to see the right side of the bg match the left.
Hope this helps

Let there be White-Lightby gipper11Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Very nice and simple shot that meets the challenge beautifully. I also like the lacy look of the round petals; I think those on their own are more than strong enough to carry the shot. The darker stalks with the dark seedheads probably got some voters to vote this lower, thinking that there weren't enough light-coloured elements in the shot to satisfy them. Can see no other reason why it placed out of the top ten.
Keep up the good work!

A Severed Head Still Sees, Severed Fingers Still Feelby LydiaComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Technically this is a really good portrait, which is why I gave it a 6. Very clean and simple studio shot. But it would have been a 7 or more if only his neck were completely hidden - that wedge of skin just takes some of the punch out of the shot. Love the hand and the red makeup on the fingers (hope it WAS makeup....right, right?)
Hope this helps!

This Little Piggy...by KokkurinnComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Ha, very well done, glad it came in 12th; I gave this a 7 during voting. The lighting from the left is a bit harsh, witness the snow on the lower left, it's blown out and competes with the pig's head for attention. Like that your own head is cropped out!
One suggestion: be in motion for a shot like this. If you/your model had been walking, as opposed to just standing there, it would just give this image that much more street cred.
Hope this helps
Susan
