| 06/06/2009 07:40:00 PM | Babes Magnet Wunderbike by AmeedEl-GhoulComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Initial Impression: very good conceptual shot but falls short in some areas, most already pointed out by commenters. And you are dicing with death by inventing an acronym to go with the BMW. I worked as a copywriter in advertising, and you unless the client is launching a brand extentsion, you NEVER, ever, ever mess with their brand name! Everyone knows BMW is a primo product. No need to invent an acronym to support it.
Technical: the lighting is quite good, composition is acceptable car ad 3/4 front shot. You did a lot of pp, which means your pp is way better than mine - but remember you must have a good shot to work with in the first place! This is a good shot, but could be better.
Artistic: Shot cluttered by the trees. Eliminate the trees and white thingys and shot would be much stronger. Hood of car too dark, maybe try a strobe on the left. I have to agree that too much light on hubcaps. Show more car, less hubcap.
Overall: A very good effort but needs work (see above)
If you have any questions feel free to PM me,
Susan
Remember what I've always said: if at least 50% of your commenters say the same basic thing about your shot, they're probably right! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 06/04/2009 09:00:32 PM | At the end of the the rainbowby GlanniComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Initial impression: Already looks like a car ad, very nicely shot esp with the water spray. I gave this a 7 in voting meaning I thought it very good, but just shy of really popping and making it an 8.
Technical: Great use of ambient light, the rainbow's timing was perfect! Comp and dof good. Not sure if I like the way you did the border. I used to work in advertising so if you were selling this car, yes, the name HILUX should definitely be stressed. To get really picky, it should technically say Toyota Hilux down there, but wouldn't have worked well with this shot and crop.
Artistic: Lucky, lucky you to have such great landscape and natural light to work with...and that rainbow was just sheer luck but good on you to have put it to good use. I find the POV a little ho-hum, but the water spray and rainbow are great and hey, you finished in the top ten!
FWIW: The only thing I'd have tried to do differently is shoot from a lower POV, just to emphasize lines of vehicle emerging from water and the rainbow would still have been there in background.

| 05/30/2009 07:52:06 PM | Homage: "Been Farming Long?" (1978)by 777STANComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Initial impression: Very cute, almost expect to see a Jimmy Carter ref in there too :-0
Technical: Slightly busy in terms of composition; find it hard to locate the focal point, eye roves around too much. Ambient lighting fine, a little drab perhaps. Would look to see this closed down an f-stop or two, maybe slow the shutter to 1/80. On a personal level I think you relied a little too much on post-processing; on this site, you must still have a good, clean shot to work with. All the pp in the world will not help a poor shot.
Artistic: As already noted, the gravel in the upper left area distracts the eye from the scene in the foreground.
Overall: A good try, reminds me of my early days here - feel free to look at my first few dozen entries or so, they'll make you feel better. :-) Keep shooting, that's the only way to go.
