You're probably getting slammed for this shot, because it basically is DNMC...but it's creative, fun, a little macabre with the headless aspect, and made my day, hence the 7. Nah, let's say 8. :-)

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: lovely building, pity that the foliage is in the way.

Technical: Love the light, nice and soft, probably taken during one of the two daily golden hours or just slightly after. I am a huge personal fan of the low pov. Compositionally, the benches help create leading lines. I like the slightly tilted horizon, it adds some dynamism. You don't list any post-processing, and a shot like this usually looks best straight from the camera. Having said that, a tiny hit of unsharp mask/sharpen edges may have helped the building pop a little more.

Artistic: Nothing quite like going back to a place you loved (or at least liked, I assume) and trying to capture it in all its slightly wonky Greco-Roman-Gothic magnificence. I think you did a very good job here, just would love to see how it may have looked from a worm's-eye view and from underneath the closest tree, to eliminate branches.

Overall: Pleasant shot, a good nostalgic capture. Keep up the good work!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Wow.

uh, oh yeah, Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: stunning image, looks like an opening shot for a scene from Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Technical: If you look for it, you can see the editing. But if you're not, well, it just comes off as a lovely shot with tons of depth and lines leading you in deeper...and deeper...into the shot. Love pix like this.

Artistic: *scratching head* what can I say that hasn't already been said? Gorgeous use of ambient light, if not for the small traces of humanity visible at the base of these towering mountains, I'd think I really was on my way to Mordor or some other fantastical place.

Overall: Uhmm....as in how to improve this picture? I can't think of any way to do so. It truly is gorgeous. May be a bit discouraging to have finished on a 5.7, but remember it's a Free Study. So in almost any other challenge it would likely have easily finished in the 6s.

Great work, keep it up!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan
