Greetings from the Critique Club!

Very interesting shot, I love the low POV. Like the disintegrating feel very evident here, like that old bucket may just turn to dust and splinters before our eyes.

Technically, I am not crazy about the bottom third or so being oof. You could have cropped out most of it and still managed to convey the sense of depth I can see you trying to capture. I can see some of the tonemapping, so I would suggest it be kept as unobtrusive as possible. You want people to see the photo, not the pp.

Artistically, the tones are good and the simple comp means that there is little to distract from the bucket. I have that lens too and it's useful for such close work.

Overall a very good job, keep shooting and I look forward to critiquing more of your work.

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Ah, the joys of trying to capture birds in flight, especially on a day of grey murky sky.

Compositionally, the rule of thirds is quite sound here with the wing of the flying bird drawing you in for the landing. The crop is awfully tight, though, and I feel that the border emphasizes the tightness. The camera settings appear fine, the lower the ISO the better. I think that shooting at the full 300mm is what caused the softness/blur on the wings. FWIW, if I shoot at the max of my biggest lens, an 18-200, I get the same effect so try to shoot just slightly less. I can see some of the pp but it doesn't look extreme.

Artistically, a good effort considering the tough subject matter and unforgiving light. Keep up the good work!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Wow Jeb, amazed you got this with the 18-200! I can see a teeny bit of Topaz, but not too much. I like the tilt, and looks like many others did too. Good work! :-)

I love extreme POVs, and though Zowie (as in Zowie Bowie? Just wondering!) looks to be a tad oof, still a cute dog and pleasant shot :-)
