There was a lot of bird activity at the feeder this afternoon so I took shot after shot trying to get a good one in flight. Shot through the window to the feeder about 15 feet away with my 75-300mm lens zoomed to 300mm.

Editing was
curves
reduce noise
frame
resize
usm
sfw

Hope it goes over well but it may be seen as a shoehorn, but you know the bird feeder was made by man :)

So after the voting starts I get this idea of a great title :( I should have entered this in the made by nature challenge with the title "Natures Flasher" Is a good idea still a good idea when it comes too late?

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Ah, the joys of trying to capture birds in flight, especially on a day of grey murky sky.

Compositionally, the rule of thirds is quite sound here with the wing of the flying bird drawing you in for the landing. The crop is awfully tight, though, and I feel that the border emphasizes the tightness. The camera settings appear fine, the lower the ISO the better. I think that shooting at the full 300mm is what caused the softness/blur on the wings. FWIW, if I shoot at the max of my biggest lens, an 18-200, I get the same effect so try to shoot just slightly less. I can see some of the pp but it doesn't look extreme.

Artistically, a good effort considering the tough subject matter and unforgiving light. Keep up the good work!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

quite frankly I was shocked that this didn't come higher - I gave it a 10 ;-) I absolutely love it!

Awesome capture of the bird coming in for a landing. The edges of the other birds seem un-natural somehow, though. I think it has to do with the blown out background. You may get a hard time on the frame, as well.

nice treatment. I think the birds need to be a little sharper.

a little too soft for my taste, still a good capture!
