Color Coordinated by vawendyComment: WOOT! Way to go Wendy! Now all you have to do is use the cyan filter and you have a bluebird ;-) Congrats!
PS glad you id'd this bird, I thought I had a rose-breasted grosbeak at my feeder. I now know it's a house finch, thanks to your lovely shot :-) Message edited by author 2010-03-22 13:06:39. |

Does He Love Me?by artvetComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Great use of thirds, lovely model with a happy look to her, she knows she needn't ask...he loves her! Dangerously close to glare-y on the shoulder. Interesting use of a macro lens, I think you could have dropped the ISO to 100 and still walked away with a great picture.
The point of the girl's elbow is a little close to the camera and borderline close to appearing huge...be careful of such things! The b/w is fine for this studio shot, the colour pop on the rose is fine. Be careful too about the border, had it been any wider than the hairline it is and I would be squawking that it was too thick.
Overall a very pleasing image, and a very respectable finish for a Free Study entry. Good work!

Ooh I love shots like this, moody and atmospheric, with an unsettling setting. The lighting is quite interesting, and very effective for this capture. Great textures and the pov is definitely snaffles-approved :-) I think the effect is almost temple-like.
Sadly, shots like this seem to suffer in Free Study. An abstract like this, especially in b/w and without people or indications thereof in the frame, tend to come across as cold and forbidding. The slight softness can be seen as a help or hindrance, it really is a very fine line.
However you still placed quite well for a shot of this nature in Free Study. Good work, keep on shooting!
Feel free to PM me with any questions,
