Hi Steve. First of all congratulations on your first submission to DPC. Your flower macro is very colorful and, like I mentioned in my comment below, the yellow, brown and reds complement each other very well.

The composition: I would have done one of two things here. 1) I would have either cropped out the top left hand corner, or moved in more to fill the whole frame with flower and also adjusted the focus to get a sharp detailed pic or, 2) Moved out a little to get the whole flower in the frame complete with its outlines and a uniform background all around the sides. The DOF is good so I would have prefered the second alternative.

I am looking forward to seeing more work from you in the near future.

I can't believe you still have winter there! Did spring miss you or is it still on its way? Still a very good depiction of weather. The DOF works in well, highlighting the front branches even more.

After the storm

A storm did this? Must have been some storm you had, looks like a tornado ripped through there. I like this image, you have eveything in focus there, the detail is excellent. I particularly like the different tones of blue throughout. The sea and sky being so calm almost gives me the impression of its gloating towards the dmamged pier :-) Good shot, you can be proud of yourself.

You were lucky getting to go out yachting for this shot! You ended up with an awesome image depicting both strong wind and stormy skies (difficult to tell if the sky is blue of not in B&W).
