Good idea with the natural framing. The composition is good, the text doesn't distract from the main image, and on top of all that you caught yourself a nice sunny day too.

Critique Club:

Hi Paul, I got your pic to critique :-) The first thing that struck me when I looked at this pic is the sharpness of the pigeon's eye and that it seemed to be looking directly at me. It is amazing how you captured that eye, the color is a wonderful deep red/orange and it is definitely the focal point of your image.

As I mentioned below in my original comment the motion blur on the wings is very effective and works well with the in-focus body and head.

The car in the background is somewhat distracting though and it was just unfortunate that it was driving past at the moment you shot the pigeon. You could have blurred it out a little by reducing your shutter speed to between 1/30 and 1/60, which is usually the best panning speed. This would taken the background into a motion blur but at the same time would have created too much motion blur on the pigeon's wings.

Maybe it would just have been best to ask the pigeon to do a series of fly-by's until you got the correct exposure in :-)

All in all a very good pic which is mirrored by the 5.6 score it received. Well done.

This is a good nature shot, wild water and rocks; typical postcard. However, some of the naturalness of the photo is decreased by the inclusion of the power pole and lines in the background. Maybe it would have been impossible to take this shot without that background but I'm sure a slight change in your position could have excluded the powerpole on the right hand side. Other than that, a top image.

It really does resemble a painted photo. I really like the position you chose to take this pic, the composition is awesome. The stormy sky out the back breaks up the dominant brown color perfectly. You can be proud of this photo. What is bothersome to me is the "Wish you were here" text. Personally I would have left it out completely. Or if you really wanted it to be included I would have placed it in the lower lefthand corner.

Now this is a typical postcard shot, you're on the right track here! You were lucky getting that crispy blue sky with amazing cloud formations in the background to increase the quality of you pic! I particularly like the perspective you chose for this.

I have heard a lot about this place but never actually seen what it looks like. Now I know thank you. You have taken this pic from a very good perspective and cropped it well. What a pity you didn't have blues skies to make this a perfect shot! But you can't control the weather I guess, I like it anyway :-)

When I looked at the thumbnail I thought those flowers in the foreground were crowds of people :-). This is a typical postcard shot, I like it. It would have looked amazing had you used a polarizer filter to bring out the sky and clouds more.

Good idea to put in a quote, the only one in the challenge I've seen, well done. This is the kind of postcard shot I would expect to find from Iceland, and yep, I'd buy it too. I particularly like the way you shot from the ground up.
