Hey, this looks like Chicago, sailing into the lake from Navy Pier. Is it? Beautiful four-master! Beautiful sky. Good work!

Hi, Clifton,

First of all, welcome to DPChallenge and congratulations on a pretty good finish for a first ever entry at this site. It's quite an achievement here to get a score over 5 on your first entry.

Composition: This is a strong entry for "Abstract". The colours are beautiful, as are the shapes. The straight lines combined with the arched lines make for an interesting picture. On the downside, I think that the dark stripe at the top, the sign towards the top middle-right, and the very small lighter section at the bottom left are a bit distracting. I'm not sure if the picture would be better without them, but they are a distraction.

Technical: I don't see any problems. Focus is good, and DOF doesn't come much into play as this seems to be a picture of a flat object on a plane parallel to your camera. Your post-processing (colour/contrast adjustment) is good.

For DPC: The picture looks small. You are allowed up to 640 px on the longest side (up to 640x640), and 150 KB. You can use any proportions you want. Your longest side is well below 640 px. Smaller pictures usually do not score as well as they could here at DPC, I am not sure why, but that seems to be the way it goes here.

I hope this helps a little bit. Congratulations again for a very good showing on your first entry. Take care,

Ursula

I think I like this one almost better than the abstract shot you entered (and that one is beautiful). This one is so gentle, yet strong. The background is beautiful, so smooth.

Beautiful shot. Love the sepia tones here. The picture has a gentle feel to it that I really like.

PS - I really hope you get at least some of your pictures back.
