It's odd that Clive has been labeled a "children's writer," and this book is a perfect example. While children will be captivated by the endless plot twists, the levels of violence and catastrophe will leave most parents uncomfortable. It's like when your uncle is Howard Hughes. The kids always want to go visit, but you're just a little anxious...

This memoir by an Alzheimer's patient is the most beautiful, frustrating, heartbreaking book I've ever read. Don't read this expecting a typical autobiography. The story has been robbed from us, just like it's been robbed from the author. What we have instead is a lament, and a life diffracted into fragments by a lonely diamond.

In a tour de force of fusion cookbook writing, Anonymous has provided recipes for the heavens of 50 different religions. The Nirvana cream cup, while impossible to make, is a joy to read about. And the Olympian Nectar Cake, mmm mmm mmmmmmm, go steal me some of that Panna Cotta, Prometheus!!

Modern Biology Seventh Edition (2015)

Most people reading this review won't really have a choice in the matter, since this is a textbook, but let me just say that Biology ain't what it used to be. Frankly, the "modern" biologist is a wimp. You can't make an omelette without cutting stuff up, if you know what I mean. Dr. Victor Frankenstein accomplished more in a few months than these crybabies have done in years. The best use of this book is to drop it on your specimen before you cut it up. How's that for anesthesia?
