I think if you took a picture of a texture and overlayed it, it would be more interesting. But you did manage to hide whatever was wrong with your picture. :)

Geared Towards Purple

it's good that you made the center gear off-center, but I don't think you went far enough. It is still completely within frame, and we can see other gears surrounding it on every side. There is a slight gradation of light from right to left and some highlights on the tips of the gears, but it is subtle and regular, while the background is completely black. The overall result is a static picture without much energy.
