characterby PhilComment: Some mad genius has stolen one of bucket's photo and found a photo inside it. My guess is that you're a frustrated poet, a haiku-writer to be more precise, who became obsessed with the beauty of bucket's work. Finally, you couldn't take it any longer. It wasn't enough to merely write comments about bucket's photo this time. You had to inhabit the picture, find your own picture within his picture. Indeed, you are a stealer of souls, as are all artists. And as with all master thieves, the thing you have stolen has now become your own. I can only give this a 10. It is a brief, stunning poem of light. |

How should we contain the hatred?by PurpleFireComment: Greetings From The Critique Club!
I would say that a 5.5 is a sign of success for this image, because some aspects of this image are not DPC-friendly. There is a certain roughness to it: the shadows on the barbed wire are very dark and have no detail. There are looming dark shapes in the background. Even the bokeh looks ominous. The wire itself looks rough and decayed. All these things defy DPC standards, but you got a plus-5 score because they also contribute to the meaning of the picture, convey a sense of the harshness and misery that accompany hatred.
Personally, I've seen a lot of close-up shots of barbed wire at DPC, and this doesn't do anything new with it, so I would not have given this a big score. I wouldn't have given it a low score, either, because of the roughness and because I really like the background and those dark mysterious shapes. I'm pretty sure I would have given this a 6. |

Happy New Coupleby Shea927Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Well, you got the hard part. You captured a very real feeling of affection between these too. If you have a knack for that, then wedding photography is the business for you! I think the composition makes the couple very big and puts them in the center. That's exactly what they'll want. Sometimes a more daring, off-center composition makes a shot more interesting, but you made the right choice here. This is clearly a photo of their love for each other and you've done everything to emphasize that. Their background is beautiful without being distracting, just a burst of leaves shot through with sun. The backlighting is flattering and romantic, and you somehow got some light in the front as well (a reflector?), so that all in all they are lit perfectly.
There are a few imperfections that don't amount to much, but did keep you from a higher score. Most significantly, the focus is soft. A simple "sharpen" in post-processing would help, but it probably could have been focused better right in the camera. I don't know. If I see it sharpened, I might decide the focus is perfect. I'd have to see.
Also, I see what I think is sensor dust on her left shoulder, and strange pinpoint highlights in their hair. It almost looks like dandruff! All that can be cloned out.
A lovely, lovely shot. I can guarantee you that this couple will be framing this. |

Victory and Defeatby staabComment: great title and yes, that is exactly how both of those things feel. 10. And do you know how often I gave 10s to sports pictures? Like, never. |
