Balloon

Comment:
I saw this photo and thought it was in the "Balloon" challenge and titled "Childhood Without Children." It made me think of the belly of a pregnant woman... tied shut. It made me think of a woman who is not pregnant looking at a balloon and seeing the baby she never had.

See how much a title can do? :)

Ah, there's nothing like pouring a couple of Martinis, sitting on a velvet sofa and listening to Gregorian Chants as interpreted by Mel Torme's so-cool-they're-hot new band, "death party lounge."

Deep Pink Loop

Comment:
Before this album was released, the only way to conjure the 9th Level succubus D'pinqlup was to draw a circle on the floor with pink lipstick, cast some pink carnation petals into it and say her name three times. But now all you have to do is buy this CD and mail in the rebate.

Deep Purple Lullabies

Deep Purple Lullabies

Comment:
All the best lullabies are purple... deep purple... they fade into sunsets and shimmer on dark water. Purple is the last color to fade into darkness, and some think it never completely disappears. These are the lullabies and children's songs of Billie Holiday, recordings that no one even knew existed until they were found at Antiques Roadshow Louisianna. Buy them for your children, play them for yourself when the midnight hour comes scratching at your eyelids...

I started this band to keep from dreaming. I invited the loudest people I knew. We rehearsed all night. Then on wednesday we breaked for lunch. I fell asleep into my ramen noodles and half my band disappeared.

"I told you!" I shouted. "I told you not to let me dream!!"

"Hey that sounds like a good lyric," said my remaining guitarist. He was greedy, so we made an album. Thousands of people bought it, took it home and played it. And I dreamed about them. All of them. I swirled into their ears. I found the stars behind their eyes and I drank the cosmic light like milk. I couldn't help myself. I became very big, and also hungrier for sleep and what I found there.

I am dreaming about YOU reading THIS right now... so much so that I'm not even sure you really are reading this.

This is my favorite band. These guys are geniuses. Instead of worrying about what instrumentation and arrangement goes for what song, they just grab whatever is lying near them at the time. In "Tennessee Lawnporn" Mitch is playing a cheesegrater. Somehow, they always made it work. Someone did start the recorder, didn't they? Okay, then, we'll just call it a rehearsal.

Deep Pleasure Lab's debut album, COSMIC FORCE.

Comment:
For DPL, depth = pleasure. They wanted a rhythm so deep that the earth would spin to it. They were looking for a beat in the heart of the Milky Way, a harmony that would warp gravitational fields. This was their pleasure. If you play this album, shut off all the lights. You will want to be alone with the Universe as you listen to it.

Dave's Piano Lounge

Dave's Piano Lounge
by Lozza

Comment:
Nobody expected Dave to record a Robert Johnson tribute album. Hell, nobody expected Dave to record an album. He was just a lounge singer in Tuckahoe, Nebraska... not even the best one. Everybody said the Tiffany sisters had him beat. But one day Dave drove to the crossroads, met a man in a beautiful blue Cadillac, and five months later had an album. It was like listening to Robert Johnson through a Martini. It was like being licked by a velvet dog. Just listen to that piano... it sounds like the keys are glowing with white heat.
