the reason this works can't be explained. it's not simply that it mixes a scant few highlights with overbearing dark tones and hints of a gray world. That's not enough. The beauty is in the rhythm of the mix, the ingredients and where you put them... the repeated pairings: two faces, two poles, the two facing triangles in the upper right, two bench supports in the lower right, two windows in the upper left. The picture is almost nothing. It peers through the brink of dark chaos.
