This shot is a decent candid, you positioned your model nicely using the rule of thirds. His pose and the act of him smoking really adds to the candidness of the photo. There is some nice contrasting between him and the background as well.

However, I do think in my opinion, there are a few things that you can try to enhance the photo further. Firstly, your blacks are to dark. If you look at his hat it almost disappears into the shadows, also the pin stripes on his suite are not as evident as the could be if you gave a bit of a contrast boost.

The other thing that I would suggest is not to have the horses snoot in the frame, or add enough so that the horses are easily identifiable. The white on the horses snoot competes for attention due to the brightness it. The horses are out of focus which is good, but there isnt enough in the frame for the eye to quickly identify it as a horse and will slow the viewer from proceeding inward past until figureing out what they are.

This is better than the fireworks shot that I got off this year, we went to a horrible showing. We waited 2 hours and had maybe 10 minutes of fireworks and on top of that it was hazy so the smoke stayed around.

I really enjoy the capture of the initial explosion and how dominant that is in the frame my eye is immediately attracted to it and then like the firework lead off the lines comming out to follow the opening of it. i like the trail that you have captured from the firework, gives a sense of where its been or comming from.

Your shot also has some very lovely colors to it, the reds and blues are very nicely contrasted to the black sky. becareful of your framing as you are loosing some of it on the edge of the frame on the left and the bottom. Perhaps at another oppertunity you can try to make one more toward a rule of third point or with soome ground element to show how high it had gone. Overall its a very nice shot to be proud of.
