The Agony of Defeatby karmatComment: The trick to these steam shots is your background.........next time try getting lower and find something dark in the background and see if that helps..........now you can remember that next year when you try again right? |

#5 - Hockeyby hajekaComment: Next time you go to this event, take a walk to behind that goal, I assume that is a fence back there. Take the hood off your lens,(hopefully you have a filter) stick it right against the fence and shoot this same shot. The difference in the angle and the shot that you get will amaze you. When you get to the fence pick the center focus point and stick it right in the middle of the square so that the fence isnt in the way of the focus point. The fence will blur and not be there at f4 or wider, sometimes even 5.6 but the need to put the lens against the fence becomes greater the more you step down. |

Flight of Fancy by mpetersComment: I have to admit that I love the look of this, it reminds me of the moon instead of the sun and is a beautiful photo. But I do have to say in the spirit of DPC...........hmmm I wonder how I'd feel about fooling the voters. |

Waterpolo shot.jpgby ShutterHackComment: Man must be nice to have an outdoor pool to shoot in...........this is a nice shot with a good low angle, fast enough shutter speed to stop the action......however I wish there was more action to it, give me some context to the play that is happening. |

Slipperyby karmatComment: Good tight shot here, I dont mind the lost feet here, but I'd blow the highlights in the background to bring some detail out in the face. |

Ouchby karmatComment: This is good sidelight, and had a great chance to be a good shot. A couple things bother me about this shot. If I had to guess this was shot in AV mode and the big shadows in the background fooled the camera for shutter speed, slowing it down enough to kill the sharpness of the moment captured. I'd also have recommended going portrait and not cutting off the bottom of the legs. But since you did lose the legs go tighter with the whole crop. |

Save meby LonniComment: I like the perspective you took on this shot. The lighting gradient works very well to add to the shot. |

Playing with matchesby LonniComment: This is very cool. I have to try this some day. The flame looks so fluid great choice of shutter speed, and great colors as well. I think the score doesnt indicate the true value and technicals needed to make this photo. But who can tell about the DPC voters huh. |
