This certainly captures the majestic beauty and power of the sea. I like how this capture shows the man standing there braving what nature will throw at him. He seems to be welcoming it because we see his arms thrown open wide - like he is ready to recieve this gift; this revelation. The only thing that weakens the strenth of this image is that the man is so small in the frame that he is almost lost. I realize that this could be a visual statement that when compared to nature man is small. But the thing is you do not want him to get totally lost in showing the powerful beauty of the crashing waves. If you zoomed in a little more the viewer would more readily be able to see the man standing there than having to search for him.

thanks christine, i agree with you , but luckily it's only on a small 640 res that shows this, the actually photo in print size 24X16 is just totally mind blowing, you can see evrything...and it's just a tad lighter than here too....
this is the trouble we have with only being able to submit small photo sizes, so we need to realise this on other photos as well, i have some great photos in print size, but reduce them to 640 and you would'nt look twice at them..... something we should keep in mind anyway...
cheers

Congradulations on your ribbon!! :-) I fully agree with you on the point that dimension size can make or break an image. In smaller images we don't always get the details or the majesty to a image at full view. As you said that you have this as a 24x16 and it is absoluting stunning. I am very sure that it looks absolutely wonderful on the wall:-)

This is indeed a very humorous shot and it could have been strengthened tremendously if two things were done. The first was I would have loved it more if you caught the whole tongue hanging out and not have it cropped/cut off in anyway - we would see it all "hanging out". Second, the title and description can be a little more playful. I looked at this shot and I didn't see the expression "so bored". Instead, I saw and heard the expression "Bleh, Leo whatever did you put in the veal dish tonight. Yuck! That tasted horrible.":-)

I love the vibrant colors seen in this photo not to mention that the lush and inviting gardens pictured here is captivating. It almost comes off as looking like one of those old time postcards. I see the girl with the parasol in the picture - and she is a nice touch in the composition. Now my only critique is that I think you could have easily zoomed in more on the girl with the parasol such that she becomes a greater portion of the composition. I would still have all the wonderful inviting gardens surrounding her, but I would not have her being dwarfed by it. Not to mention that a closer view would give us more details on those vibrantly red flowers she seems to be gazing upon.

The composition of this photo is wonderful! I love the mist seen in the background and the vibrant and bold colors of the ballons in the air really jump out and captivate you....not to mention the placid lake really reflects back the imagery of the ballons so well that the eye keeps bouncing back and forth from the view in the air to the view in the water.

The hues, textures, and composition is just so serene and inviting. A wonderful composition that just beacons to the observer "come sit, relax and smell the flowers".

Love the composition here but I think it could be strengthened if you let the viewer get a little closer. A closer crop or focus on the just one or two of those dogwood flowers seen on the backdrop of the bark of the tree would really make it pop. We would get to see close-up all the details on the textures of the tree bark and also get a treat of seeing the delicate loveliness of the white flowers as they really pop off that background - not to mention it would also have a dash of vibrant green from the leaves seen here.

Great composition. There is something very appealing about this shot - yes, it plays into the factor of something old/the past sitting there in a field. But this takes on the appearance of a painting just by composition and the 'softness' of the overall image. I especially love the little splashes of color with those purple flowers that color an otherwise earthy/rusty palette.

I love the composition and action seen and felt in this shot. The model was captured perfectly - one bar foot in the vibrant, crisp inviting grass and the other raised as she runs free. Her hair is unbound too and it too bounces with freedom as she runs through the open fields leaving those confining and uncomfortable high heel shoes behind. Freedom to run, freedom to feel the cool and comforting grass beneath ones feet - FREE!

Bold and vibrant colors just captivate the viewer. Love that I can see all those lovely details and textures of the feathers. The cropping/zoom composition is wonderful for it immediately focuses our attention on the bird as he almost appears to be playing a game of peek-a-boo with us by "hiding" under the extended wing.
