Love the pipe cleaners and eyes you added to the fruit. Love how some of them are really active - one is doing a cartwheel while another seems to be doing a karate mid-air leap! Presentation of the concept is simple, clean, and very effective. I think the photographer/model could have furrowed his brow in anger more so the emotion is conveyed stronger by his facial expression without the help of the caption. One last observation, (and perhaps this is just my monitor)but the lens of the camera and the hair of the photographer blends in too much with the background. I think it is intrigal to the concept that the camera's shape be very visible to the eye and in this composition most of the lens body disappears into the background. Gamma correction, Brightness & Contrast or even a slightly less dark background would make the camera more distictive from the background.

Dali's Ruler Collection

BHA-HA-HA-HA! Great presentation in this composition. Warped and twisted is the concept conveyed as well as a reference to a lot of Dali's work which is a warped perspective. With all the colors and twisted shapes it almost appears as an abstract. Not sure if a color or B&W presentation would have been better. One critique I can offer is that I think that the caption should have been normal block letters or at least made a tad more legible in the skewed form.

LOL. Simple, effective and clean composition. Caption captures the concept very well. Love the expressions and faces you created & put onto the pencils. That is what really makes the shot funny. Whether intentional or a lucky coincidence, I like how the rainbow swoop on the coffee mug 'seperates' the young pencils from the ol'timer pencil who lays outside the rainbow's boundry & slightly in shadow.

LOL this is great! The simple B&W calls much more attention to the details of the photo - plus it is yet another nod to Far Side's presentation as that most were just B&W line drawings. Love how you included the caption within the photo for this entry - it makes it more true to Larson's comic. Now the humor and composition: Simple and clean in the presentation of this concept. All we see is feet behind a bathroom stall but we know what the action is. Love how the Mummy wrap trails off and then goes to the next stall where you know it is being utilized at toilet paper. The Mummy's wrap turns into the Mummy's Wrath. Boy, Maurice is really gonna get it! My only critique is that the details in the Mummy's bindings are not so evident - because the edges of the binding are a tad washed out it almost looks like he is just wearing tube socks - perhaps 'dirting' up the edges of the cloth bindings would outline them more and also make the binding look a little more ancient & worn. None-the-less a great effort. 9

BAM! You hit the humor aspect out of the ball park with this one:-) Lighting and set up is perfect. Kudos to you for the ingenuity on creating the 'bomb'. Love the expressions too! He, focused intently on careful hammering the warhead . She, with wide grin, coming up to pop the paper bag to startle him. A recipe for explosive humor that only works one time:-) I love the caption/title. It is simply stated and one sentance long that works very well with conveying the thought and twisted humor of this one.

...Straight To The Moon Alice!

My first reactions to viewing this image where "Wow" and "with all the crazy drivers down here in S. Florida this photog has got to be a brave & crazy man":-) This is a very stunning image! Within your 'widescreen' composition I absolutely love how you included the railings on the bridge that along with the centered yellow dividing line just leads the eye directly up to the full moon seen off in the distance. The road, the railings and the yellow dividing line act like a runway that we travel down at high speed to then launch onwards and upwards off the ramp to that far distant moon. Love the title which is a direct reference to the Honeymooners. The show was before my time, but I have seen some of the famous snippets so I truly hear Gleason's character sputtering "Straight to the moon, Alice! Straight to the moon!":-)

Boca Chita Sunset

Going back and forth from this one and the other picture Sunset on Boca Chita Harbor, I find this one more visually appealing. Why? Reason one is that the composition choice of a vertical focuses the attention more on the lighthouse & sunset. The viewer gets to see all the lovely details more closely - from the interesting roof on the lighthouse to the more well-defined ball shape of the sun that rests just above the water. Reason two, is that the vertical subtly compliments the lighthouse which one of the main focal points of the shot. The vertical orientation of the photo 'mimics' that of the vertical orientation of the lighthouse. Reason three is that there is a tighter focus/ concentration of those wonderfully rich warm hues of oranges and golds in this photo. Because the composition is a tighter focus the eye is treated to observing more of those lovely and vibrant colors of the sunset.

To The Sea

Love the lighting on this beach scene - the sunset really brings out some nice soft hues in the foreground. I like the composition of the path to the beach being lined with sea oats on one side and the yellow 'daisies' on the other. The composition gives the eye many interesting elements to look upon and it especially adds to invoking a calm and relaxed mood in the viewer. A nice little bonus to the composition is the lucky capture of the seagull just beyond the pathway we 'visually' walk. You have captured a visually pleasing scene that invokes the idea in the viewer the calm & relaxed feel of taking a stroll on the beach.

Here I was just going to respond to a backlog of e-mail when I saw this on your profile page and just had to comment. What a truly fabulous find and fortutious capture! Love how you can see all the wonderful details of the tiny mantis. Because of the composition one can also get an appreciation of size. The color of the rose (white being symbolically linked with being etheral, innocence, purity, and delicate), the soft folds of the flower and the small insect carefully balanced upon the petal are ALL elements that speak of a delicate nature. Well done composition and capture.
