I drove an hour and a half from Miami to Naples, partly to get a shot for this challenge. You might think that I would have gone to the numerous beaches in the Miami area, probably South Beach. But, I was trying to capture an image that would be different from the usual or expected.

My intentions were to get as much foreground detail as possible as well as depth in the photo. I also was hoping for some dramatic lighting on the clouds as sunset approached. I was finished taking my shots of this scene when I caught site of the seagull making its turn back up the beach. I decided to bring the camera back up again without the aid of a tripod and fired off three more shots.

Converted in Raw Shooter and warmed up the white balance a little.
Levels in Photoshop
Shadow/Highlight to shed some light in the shadows in the seaoats on the right side.
Slight crop
Slight Unsharp

The lighting here is wonderful. There are actually several images in one. The one you chose to present, the tall grass (with or without the bird) and the yellow flowers.

The diagonal of the path makes for a dynamic image though I think shooting from a slightly different location (more to the right) you would be be able to show more of it without the flowers obscuring it.

Love the lighting on this beach scene - the sunset really brings out some nice soft hues in the foreground. I like the composition of the path to the beach being lined with sea oats on one side and the yellow 'daisies' on the other. The composition gives the eye many interesting elements to look upon and it especially adds to invoking a calm and relaxed mood in the viewer. A nice little bonus to the composition is the lucky capture of the seagull just beyond the pathway we 'visually' walk. You have captured a visually pleasing scene that invokes the idea in the viewer the calm & relaxed feel of taking a stroll on the beach.

I think the reason that i love this so much is because it is almost like I am right there. I can almost smell and hear the sounds of the ocean. Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful image that I can look at again and again and dream.

Great job! I keep coming back to this shot, voting lower and higher and lower and higher. I'm giving this shot finally an 8. I loved the colors in the sky, and the movement of the clouds. I love the color of the tall reedy grass to the right, and how it focuses one's vision through the blades and onto the pink part of the sky. I loved the clarity in the flowers on the left, and the welcoming path to the sea.

I love the elements you've included in this. It's divided "down the middle" but the other things keep it interesting. Beautiful.
