Spireby lunachickenComment: Wonderful capture! The clouds behind this majestic mountain spire takes on an errie but beautiful spectral quality. The B&W tones are in this composition is excellent! The mountain spire just pops visually off the page. |

egret.jpgby LuguerComment: Love those deep blue colors in the water surrounding the egret. Normally, I don't like a halo effect around the main subject but oddly it works here. The main reason is the deep blue color and that it plays nicely in highlighting the white hue of the egret. |

f l e e i n gby RetroesqueComment: This is a really neat effect you have captured. Because of the lighting conditions and your shutter speed you have captured a moody, dark feel to the tunnel ALONG with the 'ghostly' forms of the people walking by. This has a bit of a Hitchcock feel to it - seemingly normal situation/area with some surreal/out-of-the-ordinary/supernatural mood. The B&W tones in this composition are wonderfully dynamic. |

You are never alone by DufusComment: What makes the shot so stunningly beautiful is that warm amber/orange glow emanating out of the cloud cover. Those nice warm golden/orange tones are appealing for they compliment the idea of a nice, warm day at the beach. The silhouette of sailboat and the gleams of light playing upon the ocean surface are the two wonderful finishing touches that greatly increases the appeal of this photo composition. Beautifully composed and a lovely capture. |

A tasty Thai treat served up on chopsticks by mrorange002Comment: Well in the wacky foods department, I think you nailed it with your presentation here! The image definately makes one do a double take. The aesthetically pleasing reds (which is a color shown to increase metabolism and inspires hunger which is why it is/has been used in kitchens & dining rooms -I watch too much HGTV:-) ) really contrasts with the unappealing thought of eating a bug. I love how the red tones really pop visually off of the white backdrop. You have captured some wonderful image details from the textures and gleam on the lips to the details on the body of the grasshopper. My only critique I have on this is that I am not to overly fond of the blown highlights on the facial skin seen just above the lip. While it does keep the image clean & simple by not adding another color hue that could distract from the reds it still doesn't look quite right. I don't know what the F-stop or shutter speed was but mayhap a slight adjustment there would have avoided the blown highlights in the skin in the top portion. Hmmm, or possibly even slightly adjusting the angle of the flash that you have pointed at the ceiling to illuminate all objects evenly. |

iBook by AbstractComment: I love this creative concept and you did a wonderful job in presenting it! The lighting is great for it illuminates all the elements within. Colors of the main objects are wonderful however the backdrop does not truly compliment the scene. The dull cream/brown tone of the backdrop doesn't allow the iBook to contrast sharply or 'pop' visually off the page. A higher contrasting hue (generally white or black) would make the main object pop off the background more. Kudos to you for cutting out the pages to the size & shape of the apple. That must have been challenging and a bit time consuming. You did a excellent job in placing the pages in that sliced apple for they really do look like it belongs there. I know you mentioned that you purposely 'softened' most of the apple during exposure so that your primary subject of the paper pages would stand out more. But the drawback was that the bottom half of the pages are not as crystal clear and sharp as the top half of the pages. It still went over well with the voters but I wonder how much more appealing it would have been in the final tally to present a sharper & more detailed image with the full pages and apple in sharp focus. |

Pride of London by ImagineerComment: What a wonderful capture! The level of details in this photo are wonderfully sharp & crystal clear and the color tones are rich, deep hues. Love the way the light plays upon the surface of the water - it makes this nighttime scene a bit magical. I like the blues seen in the water and in that lovely night time sky. I love how you composed the shot so that the Millennium Bridge acts as a leading line that draws our eye across the channel to St Pauls Cathedral. |

Nature's Paletteby RayEthierComment: Beautiful! I absolutely love those vibrant autumn colors which contrasts visibly with the drab color of the barn not to mention it is a symbolic compliment to the 'falling to pieces' barn. Love how the road acts as a leading line for the eye to travel on to look at the scenery in this shot. |

Factory Accident? by JackoComment: The vibrant oranges of those peach halves that contrast very nicely off of the stark white backdrop and the dull silver of the can. The orange draws us in then we jump back with a 'WHOA!' as we notice that eye staring back up at us. Surrealism and surprise all in one little can:-) Your eyeball resting in the peach half is great for it with that shading around the eye it really gives it a 3-dimensional look. That hypnotic blue hue of the iris is also eye-catching. I also like how the eye is reflected in the lid of the can giving us a double on this double take eye-catching image. Your lighting is well-done for everything is illuminated effectively. That shadow of the can to the right absolutely does give it added dimension not to mention 'ground' it - for if the shadow did not exist it would look a tad odd 'floating' in this stark white space. |

Emotional Outlet by scalvertComment: It is amazing what one can do with just an everyday ordinary object. You took a simple electrical outlet and turned it into a extra-ordinary object that 'sheds' emotion! Lighting in your shot is fabulous for not only do you effectively illuminate the outlet but there is a wonderful gleam to that 'teardrop'. The shape of the 'tear' is perfectly pear-shaped and it glistens from that 'eyeduct'. Love the title too! A double pun on this everyday outlet and that of an emotional outlet. |
