The fogby TammsterComment: Fog can make places take on a mystical, magical look - otherworldly. This pier and the ocean is enshrouded in it. Colors have retreated and all the world is bathed or reflected in pearl-grey white sheen. The lone bird floats on what now looks like a glass-like surface. The mood of the photo is of solitude and the feel of it is cold and very chilly. Nothing is there - the quiet pier is only visited by the lone bird. The grey-white hues that dominate the photo convey a great sense of chill and cold wind. The photo is above average but I think it has potential to be even more visually appealing. The composition of the photo is in the vertical which I don't think is allowing it to have it's full visual impact. A horizontal crop would be more flattering for not only would you give your audience a 'wide screen/big picture' view of this world but it would complement & parallel the horizontal lines of the pier. |

First lightby DeniseComment: Gorgeous seascape you captured here! Classic lines of composition with the lighthouse on the rocky shoreline to one side, the morning sun rising in the near center, and the sweeping expanse of the ocean on the other side. A great balance of visually appealing elements set in this scene. Great, but not perfectly aligned - yeah, I know picky, picky...but if you crop the scene so the rising sun appears dot center of the composition you would get the perfect balance of these elements. Not to mention the possibly of fully cropping out that extra structure to the left of the lighthouse and main house that does nothing for the composition. I think the main element dominating the left portion should be just that main house and the lighthouse - any other buildings just bled attention/focus away from those two taking center stage of the left third of the photo. Colors- colors are absolutely beautiful adding vibrancy and more beauty to the seascape. |

Golden Eyeby beafliesComment: I don't know what plant life that is but it is incredibly unique looking and has alot of interesting detail! Love the bold colors of yellow that pop off the cobalt blues. Love the details I see in the interior of the 'eye'. The composition of objects and the color almost takes on the aspects of this being a 'golden eye' nebula found in the deep reaches of space. Love the square crop because it keeps my eye's attention focused on the main subject. |

oneby nixterComment: The excellent balance of B&W tones just helps the audience's eyes pay attention to the details and objects in this scene. There is the static (the unmoving dog standing) and movement (the person in midwalk blurred due to motion). Objects at rest and objects in motion. There is the subtle cue of direction as well - the chalk arrow on the brick walk. The object in motion is moving/following the direction it points too. Also interesting in the pattern matching is that we only see the bottom portions of these two main subjects - identity is unknown for we do not have the identifying features of the face/head. Then there is the "One" that is captured in the scene - part of the address of the building, the one dog in the scene, or the one person we see dominating the foreground of this composition? Or perhaps it refers to the one 'portion' I get to see of this scene to make or draw impressions from. Very artsy and has very much a feel of a cinematic still from a movie. Nice work! |

The House on the Hillby SandyPComment: And that house will have spectacular views, I'm sure! Love the fog/mist that has rolled in to create a dreamy effect on the scene - magical almost otherworldly. The people on the beach give this a sense of scale. The house standing upon the hilltop overlooking the natural beauty of the ocean...you know what this reminds me of? There are some elements in your composition that remind me of a Thomas Kinkade painting. A tad more boost in saturation would increase similarities of element in your composition and his paintings - dreamy, country or rural cottage/house, natural beauty of a nature setting, and color are the matching elements I see. I also like the cropping of the composition where it takes on a wide panoramic or cinematic view for then I get to experience the wide, sweeping beauty of the place. This would look great as a 20x24 hanging on the wall:-) |

Holtsel in Eyjafjordurby HoddibComment: Wow what a sight! Love the wide sweeping valley and those grand mountains off in the distance. The cloud cover is also beautiful to gaze upon too - love those wispy clouds that look like brush strokes. Those type of clouds make me think of a crisp breeze blowing through the valley. Oh, you want technicals too - lighting, composition, and focus are all top notch - perfectly capturing a scene of natural beauty. |

Meramec Riverby bobccComment: Calm, peaceful, tranquil, serene - all these words describe the scene here in your composition. Love the morning light reflected on the smooth almost glasslike surface of the water. Colors are beautiful too. I wonder just where you were to take this shot at this angle...it makes me think you had to be in the middle of this river (perhaps in a boat) or standing in a very shallow bank near the shoreline. The angle makes it look like the river spreads out before us like a road; one which we are already 'standing' on ready to travel down the path. |

Little portraitby KaizerComment: Rosy cheeks, cute smile and a twinkle in her eyes - what a great portrait of this little girl! This has the look of a candid - and by that I mean she is really comfortable in front of the camera and this does not look like a forced or canned smile to me. The lighting, pose and focus are wonderful. |

Beautiful Redby JaimeVinasComment: Great portrait of this young woman. Lighting is great showing off some beautiful red tones in that lovely hair. Her eyes are stunning too and the great lighting just allows them to shine. I do have some small critiques (ah, man she just had to go spoil a great commentary with criticism:-) ) First, her head is chopped - it would be much better to have the full head shot aesthetically and professionally. Next is that I think it would add more visual interest if you composed the crop to include her full folded arms all the way out to the elbows. Why? Because then you get the full body expression AND a nice subtle triangle shape of the body. |

Father of the Brideby MartyComment: LOL - it's that expression of the father's face and the thumbs up that truly makes this shot!:-) But wouldn't he be unhappy about giving his daughter away...hmmm, he is gaining a son and mayhap someone to finally hang out with on Superbowl Sunday *chuckle* Definitely a wedding shot that I have not seen before:-) I do have one critique and that is the focus on the subject seems soft and not sharp - perhaps some unsharp mask will get the sharpness back or resizing the original large file down in three stops (sharpening each step) to better preserve the sharpness (doing so to a large file in one stop will loose some image sharpness and detail) |
