Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
My dad types like this .. it is cuter when this little one does it!!

Composition:
This is a really well balanced shot and the reflections from the screen are just magic against her face.

Subject:
Meets the challenge to me .. to some it doesn't ... but kids are really easy to get candids from as with this one she is sooooo increadibly focused on her challenge she probably never knew you were there.

Technical (Colour and light):
This is lovely .. one of the ones that does work as black and white .. but because of the subject colour would be fine as well ... as mentioned that reflection from the screen works wonders ... and the window behind hasn't blown too much.

To grow its vote?:
you played it well this time ... "oh my how cute vote" :) The percentage you got was great due to the amount of entries ...

Summary:
keep it up candids are hard and this is really good.

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

Interesting to do a critique on your image but it is difficult if you don't give us any information in your photographers comments. When we do a critique, we go past just the photographic result, that's what voters comments do. The critique looks at what you were trying to achieve, how you wanted it to look and what issues you had in getting the image captured and ready for voting.

It is fine to leave information in the comments post a challenge, but to get the feel of what the picture is set up to convey etc should be entered at the time of the entry .. so that this can be taken into account when critiquing .. this is perhaps my challenge to you for future entries.

First Impression - the most important one:
Meets the challenge ... but seems to be a little flat.

Composition:
I think this works reasoanbly well. Seems to meet the rule of thirds ... I really do like the reflections .. the curviture in the hubs works well to double them out.

Subject:
Meets the challenge .. with a reasonable amount of gusto.

Technical (Colour and light):
This is ok in this shot .. but I prefer the colurs in the other shot ... the cars also appear crisper in that shot.

To grow its vote?:
If another shot is better enter it. Wasting peoples time by saying you are "testing a site' gives the impression that you don't seem to care when the best shot is not entered.

Summary:
If you look at those who win they recieve a lot of comments, but also so do those who come last .. and the DQs get the most. Take it as it comes. I believe by leading by example .. I don't always have time to comment but take my turn at critiquing ... this is a great way for people to learn ... why don't you join and utilise that opportunity too.

This is a good solid shot, I think we are to see more and better from you if DPC has passed your challenge ... if not good luck.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Kari

Edited to add: Voting is annonomus .. no one knows whose pics they are voting on or what they are scoring ... so comparing your comments with another long term users is a ridiculas comparison. (just registered from your note below)

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
Is an interesting composition ... but doesn't really meet the challenge ... don't let that stop you from entering again ...

Composition:
I would like to see more of the person ... just a bit more face from behind the tree (that is if it was a portrait type) ... in a candid this you can't often control. This is an interesint crop but it feels like the tree is a barrier.

Subject:
Does not seem to meet the challenge. but that ain't the be all and end all of life really.

Technical (Colour and light):
I am one of the people who loves colour when it comes to shots taken in nature ... here the black and white seems a little much .. it works but I think colour would help.

To grow its vote?:
Well meeting the challenge helps .. if you have not sure about how to chekc the forums ..poeple quite often discuss the challenges in the week of entry.

Summary:
Lovely shot ... will be looking for more from you!

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
This just drags real emotion ... it is one of those shots it appears, that one either loves or hates. As shown by the scoring you have both of those extremes in excess.

Composition:
I really like the use of the crop to play the rule of thirds ... The way that the memorial just plays those lines is great.

Subject:
meets the challenge but some may think it doesn't because the person is hard to make out ...

Technical (Colour and light):
I love this ... you have no issues to me here.

To grow its vote?:
Well you certainly challenged the voters here ... take a safe shot and you will get a higher score .. .but I think sticking outside the small box suits you fine.

Summary:
Wondeful shot .. .for a second challenge entry this tells me you are defiantely on the rise here.

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club. I think you drew the short straw and got me again ... here goes ...

First Impression - the most important one:
I think this is so funky! You have done well and I think this has appealed to a good range on the voters.

Composition:
It seems a little cut off on the left ... but I like the way that this works ... it would be hard to change without skewing the picture more.

Subject:
meets and excels at this challenge!

Technical (Colour and light):
Colours and DOF work really well ... it should say the aperture in the exif data on your JPG ... or the properties of the original pic.

To grow its vote?:
This is an above average shot giving true insight into the mind and room of a young photographer .. I think sharing this may have been a little nerveracking .. .cos I don't know that I could ... It is hard when some voters are not able to see the value of a picture.

Summary:
Sorry about your dog ... but I am sure you have many pics to remind you of him ... keep up the shooting you are always improving and challenging yourself which is good to see.

First Impression - the most important one:
This is a wonderful shot .. but not a candid (this seems to come through in the comments you received but you do not refute in your photographers comments so that is what I need to look at).

Composition:
Lovely ... for a portrait this would have done really well.

Subject:
Does not meet the challenge .. so is well off subject .. doesn't mean it ain't good.

Technical (Colour and light):
Good ... maybe a little oversharpened ... not sure if there is neatimage used or not.

To grow its vote?:
Meet the challenge .. it helps .. and in this case it would have .... as I said it is still a great shot ...

Summary:
You are doing good. This is a show of good things to come .. keep it up.

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club. I think this is the first critique you have had. I noticed that you never include photographers comments and on this I think that you should know that it is difficult if you don't give us any information in your photographers comments.

When we do a critique, we go past just the photographic result, that's what voters comments do. The critique looks at what you were trying to achieve, how you wanted it to look and what issues you had in getting the image captured and ready for voting.

First Impression - the most important one:
Definately looks candid ... she has one whooper of a camera.

Composition:
A little cut short on the left side of the picture for me ... I think it may have worked better with her body playing along the vertical thirds line just to make her the focus of the picture and remove it from the picture she is taking.

Subject:
This seems to meet the challenge well ... congrats on that .. candids are really hard to do. Maybe others felt that it was posed and that is why the scores of ones .. I am noat sure.

Technical (Colour and light):
Would love to see the richness of the colours in the sorroundings she is in ... the DOF seems to work well here ... but it really does seem a little black and white overkill.

To grow its vote?:
Try it in colour and some different crops ... to see how they work.

Summary:
Good solid shot .. well done, keep shooting as you are doing really well.

The critique looks at what you were trying to achieve, how you wanted it to look and what issues you had in getting the image captured and ready for voting.

First Impression - the most important one:
I think we had one of these when I was a kid .. the same light blue colour as well. You have mentioned you are disapointed with how you did .. I took a look at what beat you out .. and they aren't other rusty car pics .. on a whole they are shiny new crome things ...

Composition:
I really don't mind this composition .. take a look at those that did better the new ones showed parts and the old stuff seemed to show more complete images ... this to me has a good balance .. I would have like slightly more at the top with the badge hitting horizontal thirds ... try different crops again .. and see if any work better that is the way to learn.

Subject:
Meets the challenge with excessive force!

Technical (Colour and light):
I like the natural light and I love that the crome is not blown ... technically a good "solid" shot.

To grow its vote?:
Try different cropping and learn to read the minds of the voters ... we all have trouble with that ... lots of the time.

Summary:
Don't be disappointed ... it takes too much energy ... just go and do better next time .. and if not then the time after ... I love your portfolio .. and your work .. keep it up!

First Impression - the most important one:
The title gives it a lot ... but the picture is really quite a good candid .. I doubt she would be that happy to have people thinking she has fleas! ...

Composition:
This is not a bad shot and not a bad crop .. but it feels to me like little like something is missing ... maybe a slightly squarer crop may have worked .. with more of her ... not sure ... just keep trying and seeing what you think ...

Subject:
Meets the challenge .. .and your commentors think so too ... "Animal rights activists acting like animals?"

Technical (Colour and light):
This is fine ... I was thinking maybe the black and white is a little overkill with this shot .. It would be nice to see some colour and pinkness in her cheeks I guess ..

To grow its vote?:
Think hard about the choice of black and white in your entries . .sometimes it works and others it doesn't ,.. I am not sure which it is here .. Personally only I would love to see in colour ... (that is a personal thought only)

Summary:
I think this is a good solid shot .. and you are improving all the time .. keep it up.
