Sky Highwayby modurnComment: I admit I was a little blocked when it came to what I was going to shoot. Originally I was going to do something with the Jefferson memorial, with its nice curve of columns it makes a nice subject. Of course when I saw that it also won the previous Perspectives challenge it kind of threw a wrench into my plan. After looking through the almost 100 pictures I had taken for this, I just kept coming back to this one. I cropped to the top of the monument, which was basically flat at that point anyway, to kind of make it appear like a road up into the sky. Had I to do it all over again I think I would have shot it at the corner to add some depth to the image. As it is, there is just not enough texture to the top half of the image. |

Judicial Branch - U.S. Supreme Courtby modurnComment: Another picture I am pretty happy with. I knew I didnt want to take a picture of a literal branch, I suspected people would see a lot of those anyway and it just didnt get my creative juices flowing. I am really pleased that a few people got what I was going for. I wanted the building to appear imposing. I wanted the building to appear like a monolith. I do agree that a shot later in the day might have allowed more of the fresco on the top to stand out. Also I think I could have played with the shadows and brightness a bit more to improve it a bit. |

Obliviousby aznymComment: very interesting photo. it seems to be telling a story with the man out of focus in the background and the woman looking off. do they know each other? is the man a forgotten love? or maybe he loves her but she does not know, or maybe even care. photo's like this really speak to me, the only thing I am not crazy about is the exposure/color choice. otherwise, top marks. |

Man vs Natureby modurnComment: I am very pleased with the performance of my first challenge. I agree with the comments that the rear part of the horse was to dark. I blurred the background in Photoshop. In reality the sculpture is about 5-10 feet from the building and there was no angle where it didnt appear in the shot. I felt that it was to distracting so I made the creative choice to blur it and keep the focus on the man and the horse. But I should have waited for better light, lesson learned :)
I drive by this on the way home from work every day and I knew it would be a good subject for the challenge. I even had a picture of the way I wanted it to look in my head. In the end, other than what was already mentioned, it came out exactly as I had imagined it. Which is what photography is all about! So I am very pleased. Thanks all. |

Lonely Branchesby TomComment: the tree feels cut off (pun not intended). i would have liked to see the whole tree, otherwise the composition and lighting are fantastic. |
