ALASKAby chad_ecComment: *Critique Club*
"Alaska" is a wonderful addition into the Best of 2002 challenge. I had to peak at your profile before I started the critique to see if you lived in Alaska. I have to say WOW you have been to some amazing places and have the shots to prove it.
This is an amazing shot that I am sure many of us will never see something like this in our lifetimes. I think I like this shot because of how massive the mountains are as well as how deep they are. The composition is nice, the include of the sky make the image feel cold to me. The picture does look unreal but just amazing. I really like how smooth the first mountain and how well it flows in to the rest of the them. I personally wouldn't change anything in the shot. Congrats and thanks for sharing! |

Touchby kosmikkreeperComment: *Critique Club*
"Touch" is a wonderful addition into the Best of 2002 challenge. I have to say wow and congrats on the top 20% especially in a challenge that was based on past work.
This is just an amazing shot. It captures so much and I could easily see it on an inspiration poster. For whatever reason you decide to take this shoot back in 2002 it was defiantly worth it. I really like your use of light, by creating the shadow off to the left. I really love the positioning you choose, I think you made an great choice with leaving an odd number of hands in the shot. What is interesting is that normally I would say that the cropping on the hands on the bottom seems a little off, but it is such a great piece I really did not notice. There is not much I can say because it is just a great piece.
Congrats on the score as well! Message edited by HBunch - fixed a CC glitch. |

Lone Kayakerby CoreyComment: *Critique Club*
"Lone Kayaker" is a nice addition into the Best of 2002 challenge. I think its a little harder to get a critique on a shot that you took a couple years back. But hopefully it is still helpful to you.
The shot is a very interesting overhead approach to an action shot. I like the composition, nothing feels cropped out. This is some excellent timing on the shot as well as capturing the water. I think it was a great job timing the water to make it look more like an action shot then the flowing water that looks more artistic and peaceful. The colors are nice and bright in contrast to the rushing water. I think you did a great job in this shot. Its nice to see you return to the challenges and I look forward to your next entry.

Twisted Lightby sfaliceComment: *Critique Club*
"Twisted Light" is a great addition to the Refraction of Light. Not too bad of a placement in the top thirty percent. Personally what I liked most from this piece is that I was not sure what the object was but it really grabs your attention.
The first thing that strikes me is the vibrant colors the red, orange do an excellent job of capturing the passing light. I think the composition is very nice and feels complete. The reflection or and a touch of yellow is really a warm piece. The curves in the image lighting that is captured in the lower left hand side is very interesting almost looking like a bulb. The smoothness you were able to create with the lines in this shot really allows the focus to remain on the vase. I really don't see anything I would try or possibly look at changing. I think you have an excellent piece here! |

Twin Boys Find a Puddleby Joy MooreComment: *Critique Club*
"Twin Boys Find a Puddle" is a nice entry into the Playtime challenge. I have been around a few twins in my life at about this age and I think the picture is appropriate for the chaos that I felt at the time.
I think you had a very different idea and approach to the playtime concept. Unfortunately I really don't think the voters liked the chaos shot. I think maybe the composition is the hardest part, we obviously have the puddle but we really want to see more. The colors are great and attention grabbing. I think I felt incomplete on this shot while voting since the focus seems to be the puddle but its a little confusing. I think your concept was a great idea. |

Fairiesby idnicComment: *Critique Club*
"Fairies" is an excellent addition to the Best of 2002 challenge. This was a tough challenge since many of us were in such different places four years ago.
It is very interesting to think it was that cold in this shot, I would not have never guessed. I really like the glow from between there heads enhancing the wings. Wonderful choice of black and white. The glow gives the girls such a nice look. I think the focus being the in the center is nice and gives a soft flow to the outside edges. The composition is lovely, I don't feel like anything is missing from this piece. Even though the piece is somewhat unreal it looks and feels very natural. This was a great piece and I am so glad that you choose to enter it.
Congratulations on the top thirty it was very well deserved. |
