I don't think I could have found something more stationary than this so kudos on choosing a strong subject for the challenge.

I think the problem voters had with this image was it looked too much like a snapshot. Almost any shot like this has that potiental so I think you really need to try and frame it in a way that is not so common. Here's how I think I would have approached it:

My first thought would be to stand directly in front of the truck and get a close up of the weeds and see how that looked in the viewfinder. Then I'd probably zoom out a bit to get enough of the car so that it's identifiable as a truck with weeds growing out of it. Another idea would be getting right up to the bumper and holding the camera as high up as I could with the widest lens possible and get a top view of the front of the truck. Basically, I'd just be looking for interesting ways to frame this but also limit any hint of movement within the frame. In your photo there is some level of that because the truck is seen as if it was entering the frame from the right. Even though we know it's not moving subconciously I read it as such (from left to right) that's why choosing a unique composition (maybe just using portrait style) for this would have been golden, IMO.

Anyway, I'm not sure this all makes sense but I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying. Let me end this by saying your image does look good. It's nicely sharpened, has good color and tonal range. I think you'll be doing much better in these challenges soon. Keep up the good work!

Umm ok, back to the photo. Such a sweet looking pair! You really know how to capture people at their best, I've noticed. Given the location you shot this it came out very well. The exposure is perfect and the focus is squarely on their faces. Should make for a nice keepsake/scrapbook.

Man I hate you. :P I had a similar plan but we got some electrical storms over Austin that night and well I just chickened out. Not that I would have created anything close to this. Congrats on yet another ribbon!

In terms of the actual fireworks this wasn't that good comparably speaking however, everything else about this was fantastic from the composition to the storytelling. Really a fantastic image that I'm sure the Colorado Rockies would love to have I'm sure. Congrats you're really a master at this!
