Credit River (under street light)by MQuinnComment: Wow, I'd like to think it's my comments on your pics that did it. :) GREAT score and great pic in a very competitive challenge. Congrats on Top 10 and your best score ever. |

Got Cheese?by fotomann_foreverComment: Sorry, I'm not voting this challenge, but this picture is PRICELESS! I absolutely love it. The model's expression is one of satiric perfection. I'd give it a 10, but I don't want to vote on 20% of the rest to make it count. (I didn't like the challenge before it even started). Still, had to comment and leave you big kudos. I'll be excited to see who had the guts to pull this off...
Do you really have pink walls? or is there quite a cast to the picture? |

A Little Fight Against Coldby PERCOMComment: Excellent image. If I'm correct though, I think there's too much NI on this one. Actually, now that I look close, it could be oddly placed noise as well. Either way, it still gets a 9. |

Natural Forkby pidgeComment: OK, sorry this took a few days. Yes, it looks like there were a few DNMC boobirds out there, but they couldn't give you below a 3, so that means you had something going here. Personally I gave it a 5 and the biggest drawback I saw was the clutter of the needles. The foreground blur looks more chaotic than patterned and I don't think it's appealing.
It looks like it needs more contrast. I added 10-20 in PS and think it looks better. You need to mask off the snow because it blows even more than it is already, but the rest of the picture looks better.
The composition is nice as far as rule of 1/3rds. I go back to the shallow DOF and the chaotic needles, but there was probably no way around that. |

Spanish Forkby GermaineComment: A 5.5 is certainly not a bad score. I liked this shot and gave it a 6. The composition is nice and the subject is interesting. Perhaps the upper right is a bit bright and distracting, but not bad in my opinion. I worked just a bit in PS to see what I could do and found that it was a little low on contrast. If you up the contrast by +20, I think it looks better. You do have to do it as an adjustment layer and then remove the contrast from the upper right because you blow that section out even more with this setting.
I guess the only knock is ultimately the subject. It does hold some interest, but we grasp it quickly and move on. The winners used forks and spoons in interesting ways to create patters that were "more" than just the utensil themselves. This lacks that and was probably its ultimate limiting factor. |
