The technicals: Lots of 5.5s I'm commenting on. I can tell the technicals are generally well done for a 5.5 scores. Not much going against you here.

The feel: I think I like it. Composition is nice with the negative space and it's an interesting idea.

The game: One problem for DPC is it's subtle. That doesn't always grab the voter who typically takes 3-5 seconds to vote. It doesn't make it a bad pic, but does hurt the pic's chances for a high vote.

Technicals: sharp, nice DOF, composition is reasonable for an abstract. The lighting is good, but not great. It is not dynamic at all. There is no interaction with the subject. We just get full on, no shadow, light. I seem to feel we could get a bit more with some increased contrast or angular light.

The feel: See lighting. I think this is what hurts the shot and keeps it from gaining a "wow" factor. The shot also lacks a "flow" or "feel". Abstract shots need something interesting in shape, color, or texture. This shot is too homogenous in all three across the canvas.

The game: You were rewarded for good technicals, but hurt by there not being a flow or feel to the shot.

Technicals: sharp, in focus, nice composition. The score (5.5) reflects there are no major problems with the technicals.

The feel: I think the biggest limiting factor is people are confused about what "R star" is. It isn't something they can associate with anything. Is this a store sign? an advertisement? a logo? we have no idea and so it holds less interest to us. I'm not saying it has to be a golden arches or something obvious, but this is too enigmatic.

The game: Good shot, but subtle.

Technicals: Two things hurt it slightly. The sharpness is just a bit soft. That's from your lens. Also the brightly lit grass hurts. Picking another time of day may have been better. Otherwise I like the composition and the thumb caught my eye in voting.

The feel: I like the feel. A good choice of subject. The tilted composition also adds to the "broken down" feel.

The game: I can clearly tell this is at the top of my comment range (4.5-5.5). The background probably got you in the end along with the softness.

Technicals: Good. I don't see a lot wrong with the technicals. Nice sharp focus, nice DOF, nice lighting, nice composition.

The feel: While I get your drift with the B&W application, I may have tried to force attention on the bee through burning/dodging and desaturation of surrounding colors (while keeping them). It would be another method to give the bee extra attention. That said, it doesn't mean this choice was wrong. It does bring out the texture of the bee nicely.

The game: I actually like this one and would have expected it to do somewhat better. It could be that choosing the backside of a bee just wasn't that great a subject as we like to see their front (or side) in macros. I almost entered the backside of a dragonfly, but ultimately didn't because it just didn't look right to see it from that angle.

The techicals: Composition is good. We get a nice echo motif with the second flower. Lighting is good, but not dynamic (ie. it's flat). Processing lets the shot down in my eyes. I can instantly see the highlight/shadow effect and that probably means you did too much. It further leads to the "flat" look.

The feel: I'm not sure where the picture is going. The subject is sort of sedate and still lifeish (which isn't bad), but the processing doesn't go with this idea and tries to give it an "edge" (at least in my eyes).

The game: The negative space was not negative enough. While you do have a large portion that is not occupied by the main subject, it is occupied by a secondary subject and the voters probably didn't take too kindly to that.

The Technicals: Lighting is good. It's even and you controlled the highlight fairly well. The blacks are black. That said, the lighting is also not dramatic. In other words, it merely lights the subject instead of interacting with it. Focus is an issue. Your focus plane is on the stem of the plant. Probably the sharpest focus should be on the petals somewhere. Using a smaller aperture could have helped (then you would have to use a tripod, but no matter, the flower isn't moving, you could do a 2 second exposure if you wanted). Composition is fairly good. Not centered, but not particularly dynamic.

The feel: Straightforward. We see a picture of a flower which has been done fairly well, but it doesn't provide any "wow". We take it in quickly, then move on. There is no reason to linger.

The game: Flowers have to be done interestingly on DPC to survive. Look at ursula. She excels with flowers, so they can be done well, but she also does interesting things with them. You got a huge number of 5s which means the shot didn't lack in the technical dept too bad, but didn't do anything for people either. Work on some "wow".
