Criticism; whilst I like the sepia(?) effect here, given that (I am assuming) there are only a few colors in this shot, the color version may have been more dramatic and captured the detail and 'glory' of this period in time. I would like to have seen the crest in full too, and I just noticed that building(?) right rear, if it was old, then incorporated more else just removed completely from the frame. I guess it was a hard angle to get as is, but somehow bringing the 'artwork' of this ship into the frame more fully, and thus dramatically, would have made it a better photo in my opinion. Well done also for not elaborating on the year, the picture tells it's own story (not to mention what the Challenge description asked for). | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I would like to have seen a different angle here incorporating more of the 'grandeur' of this house (if possible, dependent of course what is on the 'sides'). I think the colors of the wall/entrance and house are good, but unless those could have been emphasized and as I say a different, more dramatic angle, perhaps a b/w or sepia would have helped make this a better shot in my opinion. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Criticism; whilst I can certainly pick out some classic pieces here (the high chair especially), there are a few pieces which I question the 'authenticity' re the 'era'. The 'patterned newspaper'(?) on the shelves, confuses me and I cannot discern what it is, or for - perhaps it is an 'era specific' thing - who knows. Just a few minor details such as the leg coasters, some of the 'items', detract in my opinion. Also, there are too many things here, and the 'arrangement' could have been better in my opinion. As for a b/w or sepia to enhance the 'feel' for the era, maybe, not sure on that. For me, just a different arrangement/composition, and angle, would have made this a better photograph in my opinion. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Criticism; firstly, the buildings in the background, I really wish you cropped that out or better, had a sharper, perhaps even ground level angle here. The gentleman behind the wheel adds to the character too and whilst the coloring of the vehicle is good and seemingly authentic, sepia might have added something, but not sure on that. Also with those white tires etc, again, a different angle, even closer, to 'show them off', would have made this a better photograph in my opinion. To really nitpick I guess the bitumen 'path' wasn't around then(?), so maybe parking on the grass (risky I know), but it is a classic car and apt for the Challenge. If only those buildings didnt bring me back to 'present day' when I view this shot. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I actually tried to Wikipedia to find out who this is, I 'guess' it is Vietnam related, or, a relative. It does, for me, depict an aspect of the era though, so you met the Challenge fairly well - just as a 'westerner' it does not tell a 'clear' story. World politics aside, Criticism; whilst I think the effects look good, I would like to see perhaps a little bolder contrast. There is definitely a lot of character(s) in this shot, perhaps even a frame (given the 'inner frame') may have made this stand out a little more. I also congratulate you for not having an 'explanation' and putting just the year. As I said, it tells a story as it is, just that for me personally, it is not fully comprehended. I don't need to know more though to get it as a fitting shot for the Challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

A photo of this in a time capsule would fairly well depict the era for future generations. Criticism; I would like to see more 'context' somehow, even a wider angle if that were possible. I can see you have applied some effects but I think you haven't quite nailed the 'feel' I guess you were going for. Perhaps a little lighter and possibly some grain, not sure. |

Criticism; The people (tourists?) are way too distracting/detracting for me. The color treatment, while interesting, and has potential, doesn't work here in my opinion. Maybe if you had a different angle or, a different crop, blurred out the 'people', might have made this better in my opinion. That said, I would also like to see a lot more definition and detail on the castle, so perhaps closer with that sky as the backdrop, not sure. edit: typo/grammar Message edited by author 2005-08-17 08:19:44. |

Criticism; I would like to see either a slightly 'wider' angle, incorporating the roof, else a tighter one, with just the 'eave'. All the 'subjects' look pretty authentic to me (maybe the pump?). As for b/w or sepia, not sure on that, I like the colors, but maybe the desaturation may have made it more 'dramatic', not sure. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Criticism; for true 'authenticity' the 'fashion' is not quite right in my opinion, and in my opinion, if you had used just shirts or something 'neglibible' would have made this a better photograph in my opinion. I like how you got the suds etc, and the setup. I wonder if b/w or sepia might have worked better. A slightly wider angle would have also been better, to get the bigger picture of the 'washing', in my opinion, etc etc. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Criticism; for true 'authenticity', I will nitpick the phone, and perhaps the shape of the Coke bottle, but yes that is nitpicking, but 'striving for perfection' is the aim, for me at least. I like the shadow at the fore, and would like to see you have incorporated that more. I think the b/w works well here but a different angle, more 'dramatic', may have made this a better photograph in my opinion. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
