Just Add Breathby KoriyamaComment: Critique Club Review:
To my eye, the recorder leads the eye down and the music leads the eye up. I do like the way you resisted the temptation to run the music and the instrumet in parallel lines. This way the music seems to wrap itself around the instrument, giving a much greater visual interest as it makes the two become one. The frame really works in this picture. All too often a frame is there for the sake of having a frame. Here the color of the frame really makes this picture pop.
About the only other negative comment I have, and it is very minor indeed is that the recorder goes a bit soft at the upper end of the picture. Perhaps an f-stop adjustment would help with the depth of field.
The picture is very well lighted, more would have been less here. The contrast and saturation are simply excellent. This would make a very nice art print, especially for a music lover or classroom.
Congratulations on a very fine picture.

Retirementby dodobirdComment: Good pic! Tiny bit washed out at the trees(?) at lower left. Would like to see the end of the rod, rather than have it lead me off page, but a good strong 9 none the less. Update: After finishing voting, this is my pick for the week, now 10. |

Happy White Blood Cell Hard at Workby TurbotechComment: I'd love to know how you did this one within the rules, or do they all look like that? Contrast, focus and lighting are a bit off for me, but a strong 7 on composition and entertainment factor. |

Last Chop of the Dayby sanandanComment: Picture appears a bit dark. The meat is well lit, but the dark clothing tends to blend into the dark background a bit much for me. Otherwise a very good and interesting photo. 8 |

Close Shave by FranziskaLangComment: Critique Club Review
Not much work to do here.... This was one of my favorites during the voting. I think the way you used a real picture frame for a frame was a fantastic idea, as opposed to just adding a frame with software. The wood shavings poping out of the picture and over the frame really make this picture for me. Give a real sense of depth, so that I feel like I could reach in and touch it. Exposure, focus, depth of field, contrast, color saturation, this one has it all. Excellent job of lighting, shadows were well controlled so as to add texture, but not compete or obscure. This photo is an example of how it should be done.

Now I can be productive anywhere!by BobsterLobsterComment: Critique Club Review,
Good message from the photo, it does fit well with the title and tell the story. I'm notm sure if the backlighting was on, on the PDA, but it could have helped to make the solitate game stand out more. As it is, the game is a bit dark and tends to fade into the table surface. It is also overwhelmed by the brightnes of the PDA case and the nearby glass. The eye wants to travel up the glass, and then is distracted by the out of focus rim, and the chalk line that tries to pull in tow directions from the center. Otherwise the depth of field is good, and exposure is a bit contrasty running the wood dark and almost washing out the case of the PDA. Excellent idea for the phot. Got a big grin from me. |
