I gave this a 7.
IMHO the score you received was too low. But the only reason it is below a 5 is that you didn't get any 8-10 score which would have negated those 1-3 scores.
In comparison, check out this SH#! image from me a few years back. . Even my wife told me not to submit ...

You image is much better and like I said, received a 7 from me.
I think it kind of begs to have the bee a bit tighter in the frame and a bit sharper. People like sharp bugs - personally, I like your approach here - the colors are great, The bokeh is great and if you posted this on Facebook I'm sure it would get accolades. But here you are judged by photographers who have seen 1 million bug shots where you can see every little detail.

I think I prefer the simplicity of this one. It has a classic feel and is less "in your face" (no pun intended). For me, I prefer most of the outtakes you have for that reason. However, I knew your final entry would to well - I think to me personally, it is a bit intimidating or something =) That being said, it received my 2nd highest score in the challenge =D

I gave it a go. A slight change to the white balance (warmer), contrast, clarity, exposure and crop (this was all done in Adobe Lightroom).

Processing can make a difference with a well-composed image like this. Your exposure was right on for something right of the camera - it just needs some life given to it in post-processing. You might be surprised at how much post processing there is on some images. phlearn is one good place to get some tips on post processing.

I like what you have here. The composition is good and the subject is great. I gave it a 7.
Criticism: The entire image is a bit soft and the color is off (maybe the white balance). That may have hurt the score a bit. When I have a chance, I will try to play with a copy of it a little bit to see what you think.
