I happened to find these photos while following your link in the self-portrait group. I didn't happen to catch them during the Beatles challenge, but I must say your finish at 38 was good, but you deserved even better IMHO. They top some ahead of you as far as I am concerned. I love the lighting. The clarity and detail, especially in her hair, is excellent. Tones are near perfect as you have left detail visible in a dark dress while still doing justice to her complextion. Nice composition too. Well done. If I had voted in that challenge you would have "earned" and received a 9 or 10 from me.

I don't think it's too dark given the theme. Also, your skin tones are just right, so the darkness adds to the images rather than inhibiting them.
