Hi Geoff,

First, your subject a plant meets the challenge, unless you consider the light the subject, which also fits the challenge.

This shot has some positives along with negatives. Lets look at the positives first. The plant is lined up nicely, with the light shining to the plants leaves. I like this. The forest is nice behind the shot, but needs to be a bit darker, so it doesn't draw the eye away from the plant or light.

Now the downfalls. IMO the light, the purple, is very un-simplistic and distracting. A natural white light would have worked better. The purple is just too overpowering. I think having the plant at a different angle, (more above) or closer to show the light on the leaves, would have made a better shot. There needs to be a bit more contrast with the background and the leaves of the plant.


I hope this helps a bit. Keep trying, you learn from every shot. I know I have and keep trying to do better.

Hi Haja,

At first I wasn't sure if the photo fit the challenge, but I'm also thankful for having the a camera and shooting shots of whatever makes me enjoy the fun. The shot fits the challenge.

The shot, in your opinion is rubbish. Well, I see positive aspects along with negative ones. So, lets look at some of the positives first. I liked the coloration and what you had in focus is excellent. The "C" is nice with the sharpness of the grain above it. The coloration, goldish, is real nice. Your cropping fits the subject well.

Now for the improvements. I think your downfall was the focus. I think it would have looked much better if you'd had the whole name in focus. The cripness of the "C" was really nice and the other letters in this sharpness would have increase the interest by quite a bit. I think this is really the only negative think on your photo.

As a whole, yes it wasn't real interesting or inspiring, but it gave you a chance to give your thanks, I did the same thing with mine. So we we met the challenge well, didn't we.
