Harsh shadows hurt the time you put into arranging this. The lighting on the subjects, however, looks good; soft shadows on the faces and nothing too bright or dark.

This picture doesn't evoke anything because it is a rather ordinary object shot from a perspective very familiar to people. The bright flash coming directly from the camera creates a reflection on the fan and the wood background that takes away any artistic qualities that might have been intended and makes this feel more like a quick snapshot. Unless, of course, this was entirely intentional, in which case, this is quite brilliant. The photo meets the challenge but fails to engage me. 5
