Charlestonby LeeDComment: Lee, one of the things to do when creating an image is ask yourself, "Why am I taking this picture? What exactly is it that impels me to click the shutter?" If you examine this on your own before you shoot, the viewer will better understand your purpose. During the editing process, ask, "What do I want the viewer to think/feel/see when they look at this image? What do I think/feel/see when I look at this image?" With the answers to these questions, post-processing is often much much easier. In this particular image, my eyes don't rest on anything because nothing stands out. The colors are vibrant but they compete with the linearity of the 'marching windows.' My eyes are repeatedly drawn to the way the street was cut off and I try to imagine what was there. I'm not sure this was your intent. A good exercise is to return to the scene and try different points of view. Something that may be interesting would be on the roof of the building across the street. This would allow you to emphasize the repeating pattern of the windows while using the vibrant colors as a balance against the repetition. Of course, you would need to go really wide angle for that shot. This image technically is sound; it just suffers from a lack of purpose in the viewer's eye. Just my point of view - others may vary... |

Mushroomby WarbyComment: Looks like you were just a hair too close for the macro in this image. The lighting is excellent but for me, the DOF is too shallow - I keep thinking my eyes are out of focus. The composition, crop, POV, and tones are all excellent. 5 |

Banana Leafby ZippyComment: This is really cool. I wish the background had been a little different at the bottom so the leaf stood out more but I think the lighting is great. 7 - good luck in the challenge! |

Before the Bloomby rileyComment: Textures in this are great. the green on the right slightly dimishes the strength of the green in the flower but not enough to be too distracting. Composition and POV excellent. 8 - good luck in the challenge! |

Klingonsby horsemadgirlComment: Really interesting texture. It hink the lighting helps a lot here. The detail is great. Being different, the wood seems to be the focus here. Do those things have teeth? Brussel Sprouts! 7 - good luck in the challenge! |

Burnby zumba666Comment: I am looking for an interplay of light and surface here. This image has it. The DOF is a little short but the POV is great. The detail is amazing. 7 - good luck in the challenge! |

tilesby coolbrother84Comment: While the image is in focus, the lighting does not add any depth to the texture - even smooth can show texture by throwing off light. Would like to see this re-shot with sunlight coming in in the morning or late afternoon. 5 |

Textureby michaelkComment: Well done! The detail in the front balances out the flatness of the sky. The tones are very well done. Composition good. Like the slight shadowing. 7 - good luck in the challenge! |
