This would have done just fine in low key, maybe. I can never tell with voters, but it's definitely low key and I prefer it to your entry. And this is coming from someone who nearly always prefers B&W. Light is beautifully handled here.

Composition is indeed very good - I like how the irridescent tail feathers provide a lovely compliment to the red and bronze of his head and neck. Great detail as well - fine shot, fine finish!
