There's this stuff you can get in a diffuser by a company called Feliway - they have a version that helps cats stop scratching things (and marking things, if they're doing that, too.) I was using it for Sir Thomas, who'd taken to marking a bit now and then and am now stuck with four refills of the stuff and the diffuser with no more use for it (Sir Thomas dropped dead on Thursday). I did notice he had quit scratching the furniture when I was using it, too. You might want to look into it.
